We want Calypso Juniors!!!!

Hawks are always cool. Since this knife is on the small side, how about a small hawk name. "Sparrowhawk" has a nice ring. "Harrier" is both a small hawk and a vertical takeoff attack jet.

There is a Lakota Phoenix, in the G10 mastercraft range. It has TM next to its name. Does that mean it can't be used?

The Calypso Jr. - to me at least, is not an aggresive knife style. The "predator" names don't fit with my concept of the knife. Clean, sharp, functional, almost delicate, but not predatory or aggressive. Perhaps "Blackbird?" or "Raven?" "Bird" seems to fit more than "fish".

If the Calypso, Jr. needs to be retooled, could it have its integral choil done up like the Native or Dodo? That's a tactilely satisfying feature. Feels like you'd only get a crushed finger were the lock to fail.

Spyderco Savvy.

After hearing the Calypso Jr. was to be discontinued, I socked one away. Would love to see the design continue on.

All the Spydie folders I know have full-thickness steel at the base of the blade, for precisely that reason. I am sure that they have measured the forces involved and decided that 1/8" is good for safety.

Is it even thicker on the Native and Dodo? I don't have either one.

I would bet that someone at Spyderco knows the names of a few people whose fingers have been saved by this feature.

Yeah baby, I'm kicking this up a notch! I wanted to bring that thread back up as I've just acquired my first Calypso Jr. this week. I had a large Calypso and loved it. I'd wanted a Jr., as had my dad, after handling the Calypso. He lucked out and found one at Blade and I lucked out and found one this week. It is a GREAT knife! I'm not usually into small knives but this baby ROCKS! It must be reborn!

I ordered mine this week too. I haven't gotten an email confirmation of the order yet though. I think I will write to them now and make sure they got my order.

I lucked up and found a plain edge as I can't stand serrated edges. Did you find a plain edge and if so, where?

Ditto, I can't stand serrated either. I got mine from knifecenter.net I hope they actually have it and it's not just listed. I wrote them an email before so that they will confirm my order, but they haven't written me back yet.

I just purchased a Frn PE VG-10 Calypso Jr. It hasnt left my pocket since, replacing my ss e endura. When I can afford it I am probally gonna purchase another:D

So yes I would like to see a rebirth of this awsome knife!

Morgoth,
I've had a look at the Knifecenter website, it seems they only have the serrated VG10 FRN Calypso Junior.

Moon,
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get yours?

If you have friends or family in the States you should give that a try. PE Calypso Jr's are becoming quite rare...:(

Thanx for all of the input. Many of the names suggested are already in use by other companies, many of the suggestions are interesting.

If we made a run we would more than likely make it in FRN. We are already tooled. Micarta is currently available only in black, but FRN can be any color.

If we made a short plain edge run, Would you prefer VG-10 or D-2?

sal

Thank you for listening to the chanting din! Calypso...Calpyso...Calpyso...Calypso....
I'd much prefer VG-10 over D2. Not listed is perhaps S30V? :D
