We were all new here once

this is my second day here at bladeforums. The community is great. I'm not new to knives, been handling them since age 16 now 20. 4 years of knife knowledge and I am still eager to learn. I enjoy learning from others as I feel it is a great opportunity to learn something new everyday and that's why I made an account.

How many of us can say that every knife purchase we made was a smart one. How many of us at some point have bought a knife simply because we thought it was "cool", or "tactical", etc. How many of us have bought knives from questionable companies with silly marketing. I doubt that any here are perfect.

Questionable companies with silly marketing? Like who? lol

Great thread! I'm not a newbie to the industry, but am to the forums. I appreciate everyone's patience and help

Questionable companies with silly marketing? Like who? lol
I don't want to name names, but there are a few knife companies that have been called out on this forum over the years for their ridiculous marketing. Like for example, advertising knives by saying they will "divert blood-spray when de-animating taliban fighters". And other words to that effect. And that's a mild example. Some companies really go over the top in their marketing language.

This site always seems to be my "go to" for knife info. I'm learning a ton about blade steel but am still a genuine noob. I'm brand agnostic and have a few Spydercos, a Benchmade 940, and a ZT0566 among others but find myself partial to frame locks. Honestly, I just like how they look and the performance argument is beyond my level of use. I sharpened a knife for the first time last week with my KME system. I worked on a severely damaged knife but it was a good start at learning.

As a newbie to the forum and to knives in general (despite a long time interest in them), I've already been on the end of some great help/advice/comments from some long standing forum members. It has been a very warm welcome and I look forward to making meaningful contributions as my steep learning curve begins to flatten a bit. I think this thread makes a great 'sticky'.

Im new here but not to knives and from what I've read in this thread so far it looks like there are some good people here. I've lurked here for a while and figured it was time to join.

Very well stated. Anyone interested in quality made knives whether custom or production, who takes the time to learn, deserves respect no matter what level of knowledge they have. It appears that many members seem to appreciate an opportunity to help new members and express their knowledge in the area of that particular blade. A few others are just lazy and act as amateur critics.

It's always apparent when a solid community exists, and from what I've seen there is a lot of positive energy and knowledge about these boards. I've always grown up with a blade on, or around, my persons, but my knowledge, understanding and respect wasn't at the right level. It really is only in the last year that I feel I have grown to appreciate a solid blade that much more, at least within my own scope, and I hope to learn more and further appreciate the beauty of the blade. Gotta keep the edge sharp, both literally and figuratively.

Hey everyone. New to the forums and new to knives but I think I've started out right so far. I've got a a kershaw piston and a ZT 0350SW. I edc my kershaw piston because the 0350 was just too heavy and big to EDC for my first knife.

New to this Forum, although not to knives. I entered the Army in January 1969 for BCT for 10 weeks and then on to Fort Polk Louisiana, Home of the Infantry Soldier TIGER LAND Training for Vietnam. I graduated as a Jungle Warfare and went to Panama and became a Jungle Warfare Expert. My MOS was in US Army Signal Corps (Classified.) Injured during a Training Exercise in an area other than Vietnam. I was MEDIVAC to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany. after six months putting back together again and four months PT I was stationed in Giebelstadt, Germany for three years, Fort Gordon, Georgia US Army Signal Corps for one year and returned to Germany Heilbronn, Germany three years seven months. Reenlisted for six more years staying in my MOS, I spoke Russian, however I needed to take my Desert Training at Fort Ord for six months and six months of Air Assault Training and then back to Germany stationed in Baumholder‎, Germany. Re injured my Knees, Shoulders, lower back, ankles, and Head Trauma. Returned to Fort Gordon, Georgia as a Senior NCO of the final testing area. I wanted to reenlist for six more years, however, was told NO! by the Commanding General and had to be Honorably Discharged and went home to figure out what to do next. The phone rang and was offered a position with the DOD doing the same as I did in the Army with full benefits at $30K Plus a year. The DOD said pack your bags for Point Mugu, CA Pacific Missile Test Center to monitor Russian messages from Russian Trawlers. Having a degree in Electronic Engineering with my main interests in Designs and Development of Photographic Cameras and was asked if I could handle the task of new cameras. I worked there from 1983 to September 30, 1996 as I was re-injured and was told by OWCP to go home.

Hello BladeForums Members of all kinds. young and old , new and veterans. I've never taken the time to say hello to the forum and thank you for your patience with me and any other seemingly annoying souls. I know one thing that makes this place pretty special. You can talk about knives without feeling like your nuts for doing so. knives and sharp things are a major part of my life. I still may seem nuts here but its not because I like sharp things. I hope to learn from those who make mistakes and those who help others avoid them. I am always humbled by the wisdom of so many here. I have relearned a lot about what I forgot about being in a community. Thank you All !

sincerely

James

SFCArmy ,

Welcome and thanks.

New to the forum and knives. Always took interest but never did anything about it til now. Last two weeks I've been reading what members had to say and what the show and tell was.. I got hooked! I look forward to participating now.

Super new here, (just signed up yesterday). I have found this site to be a wealth of information. I haven't had the opportunity to interact with anyone yet, but I look forward to it. Found this site by looking for info on Imperial Prov and Schrade knives and I must say there are some experts here. Thanks again.

I'm as new as it gets! Been trying to download an image of my SOG Government Recon I picked up in 1988 (what they then called the blued-blade "commercial K Bar" from Seki-Japan).

Inept at computers; a bit handier at sharpening blades.
