We were all new here once

Just joined today. I have always liked making things and working on things with my hands. I have many hobbies and I thought what is one more.

Howdy. I also, just joined. Been browsing all week and like what I've read. lots of knowledge. Hope I can bring something to the table as well.

Cheers, Battle

Well, this is my first post! I've been lurking here for a while as a member, but even longer as a non member.

I really appreciate the heart of the OP on this one. I have joined many, MANY different forums, usually to get trounced by the people who have lived in that forum far longer than me. After a while, it is easier to look through others threads and see if my questions have been answered, then have to get made fun of for asking. I wasn't planning on even writing until I read this.

I have been making knives for a little over a year. I actually have sold some too.. albeit to friends and family, but you have to start somewhere.

I genuinely appreciate the help that people are willing to give here. Going through the forums for the last year or so has really gotten me where I am now. Heat treating, sharpening, grinding.. all of it. Literally every knife I have made has some part of the BF fingerprint on it. I guess I owe everyone a big thanks.

My LB1000 arrives in two days, and I am just about giddy with excitement. The idea of being able to grind out not just one blade in a couple of days, but hopefully a couple in a good sitting sounds wonderful. In fact I was just ordering my first set of belts, and was bombing through the forums looking for recommendations when I stumbled on this thread, read a bunch, and decided to chime in.

This forum is awesome.

Thanks again!!

Hello, recently I got into knives and I was just browsing some bulgarian blade forums. I just found this and it looks great. I have always liked knives and things that cut, so here I am.

Hi! New guy. I'm an EOD operator, issued quite a few tools and items, mostly Gerber. I'm a fan of Gerber, through exposure, I suppose. I really do, however, appreciate the engineering and detail in the knives out there. I also have an Ontario RAT 1 which I really like...
Glad to be here!

Hello everybody. Another new guy here hoping to learn a lot, pretty overwhelming at first with all of the info on here. I'm EOD also, Paul and yes we do love our knives. :) I hope to be able to make a decent one some day.

Mike

Sorry to say i'm no knife expert. I was an Infantryman and am an expert on military rifles and other weapons. But I'm not familiar with the best quality knives, I've had several, just not the elite ones. I have a K-bar and the blade broke off (an actual K-bar not the Case brand I had) and it really bothered me. So now I have a Spartan Horkos (please give me your experienced views on that) I really like this knife, but it's not really effective in the bush/woods, it's more of a close quarters weapon, which is ok. I really want to know which knife is the baddest in the land. Mind you I live in NY and am not allowed exotic brass knuckle knives and so forth. Also I live in the thick woods and need a reliable chopper, because of the thick brush around here. I really want to get a Busse battle mistress, and I would really like to get some feedback about this. Tell me if it's the blade to have or if there's something better.
Thanks

Just joined. Been carrying knives for over 35 years and am a USMC Infantry Veteran. Been making knives for a while and truly appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into them. Looks line you have a really solid community here.

Hello everyone! Been lurkin' for quite a while and then decided to join. Hoping to learn more from you guys!:)

Hi! In last few years I bought some knives ( some bad, realy bad, some excellent ) but didnt find even one and one only with purpose in real life. First I tought that's problem in me. Just don't know what I want. Then the truth came out by it self. They all are made just to be sold, not for real use. Every single one of them. Survival, law of jungle, knives... in 21 century? I wish you all very best in your lifes!

Well, it has been a long time since I've been here and have been wondering how y'all have been. I'm still in the works, still making knives and working the day job. As for the other part time PI work, I am giving that up. There are not enough hours in the day.

Some of we old dogs are still around and we email each other, etc. I sure see a lot of new faces here.

Hi, just lurking for older -tech Axes, some hints on handle shapes, edge sharpenning, etc. Aussie.

Well I guess that I will introduce myself as well than.
Excuse my English, my name is Barry I am 38 and I work for the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps since 1993, right now I fill an exchange billet with the USMC at Camp Lejeune North Carolina, this is a 3 year billet.
I already have been here for two years now and I got little more than a year left, I am here with my wife and two sons.
It is in a man his nature to be attracted to knives..(my opinion) especially in the military.
I have a friend back in the Netherlands who makes custom knives and he made one for me and I have seen what he has made in the past.
His company is called Wicked Fish Knifes & Tools, and not only his knives are cool, there are so many out there that I like, this made me to decide that I want to try it for myself.
I am not a miljonair so I have to work with a tight budget, but that is fine it is all about the satisfaction I can get out of it by creating something with my own hands.
So I was hoping that somebody in the area of Camp Lejeune North Carolina wants me as his apprentice.... And teach me to create something awesome.
And help me to improve my knife making skills that are at a level of 0 now.
Or could somebody inlighten me in where I can get a starter package to create knives....
All the help and information is welcome, it all is a hobby of course because my Marine Corps life is second family life is first but knife making can become number 3.

Anybody know where I can get a v-42 authenticated. It's definitely original minus the skull crusher. Given to me by my grandfather & he spoke of hand to hand combat with this item. Guessing that's why the skull crusher is missing.

Welcome Barryblade. To answer one of your questions, there are several online companies that specialize in selling knife making supplies, tools, etc. One company that I have used for knife parts is knifekits.com.

There are also a variety of sub-forums here at Bladeforums specifically devoted to knife and sheath making. You can find those sub-forums by clicking on the box that says "Forum" at the top left of the screen under the Bladeforums logo. Once you do that you will see the various sub-forum catagories. The knife making forums are in the box right below the Knife specific discussion forums at the top.

Welcome to the forum Travissholley. There is a subforum here at Bladeforums specifically for the purpose of identifying knives. It's called the Bernard Levine's knife identification and collecting forum and it can be found by clicking on the box that says "Forum" at the very top of the screen under the Bladeforums logo. The Bernard Levine forum is in the first box (Knife specific forums). If the people there can't help you, then they will probably know where to recommend you. Be sure to read the rules of that forum before asking any questions as there are rules against asking what a knife might be worth.
