We were all new here once

Hey all,
I'm about a new to this as new can get. I'm with Wicked Edge and have been sharpening on the WE for about a year, but I'm looking to expand my knowledge about knives in general. I'll probably be buying my very first edc here pretty soon, so I figured this would be a great place to get some advice on that.

G'day from Down Under,
Old fart, but new here.
Love knives, and have a fairly comprehensive collection of "Stockmen" and some fixed blades.of various styles.
Spent 40 yrs as Veterinarian in "The Bush"
Constantly accompanied by a good quality Stockman 4", kept sharp.
(As I can claim this as a "tool of trade", I am allowed to carry it, but, as most of you will be startled to know, it is illegal to carry even a folding knife.Flicks are illegal and unavailable here)
Ex-Rugby player and swimmer.
Old, fat and decrepit now.

Learned a lot by lurking here and finally officially joined. I believe my first knife was a Camp King about fifty some years ago and still love blades.

Hello, I'm new here and to be honest I really don't know anything technical about knives..I'm a US Army EOD Technician and I am in the planing phase of my own digging knife. I will be creating a thread asking for help related to that knife and I thank those who take the time to answer my questions.

After years of lurking, I decided to finally join up. I've religiously carried a pocket knife every day for over twenty years, and have bought & carried knives of all styles and sizes, fixed blade and folders, from just about every major manufacturer out there. Like most of us (I think), I carried assorted SAKs and no-name traditional style lockbacks for the first few years. The first modern knife design I owned, which really sparked my interest in the industry, was a CRKT Ryan Model 7 back when they first hit the market. As I remember, it was made with pretty crappy steel & didn't have a very strong liner lock, but I guess you get what you pay for. Despite the fact that the knife itself wasn't that great, the design & features on it were so bizarre to me that I quickly became obsessed with the industry. I'm fascinated by the variety of different designs that exist, what makes one knife more suitable for certain tasks than others, and I'm also the type of guy who loves using knives that have unique or new locking or deployment mechanisms. Variety is the spice of life! I'm not a brand snob, nor do I think a knife has to be expensive or made of certain steels to be considered a respectable tool, though like anyone else I do have standards. Two decades and a few thousand dollars worth of knives have passed since my interest was first sparked; today I have one of the new style full-sized Cold Steel AK-47s in my pocket.

I'm also a gamer, who plays mostly first person shooter games online. Currently I'm focusing on Call of Duty Ghosts on Xbox One. As indicated by my name, I try as often as possible to play these games with knives only. Every FPS game I've ever played gives you a knife, but people almost never use them - unless they sneak up behind a camping enemy and want to embarrass them. The reason I try playing these games without guns is twofold - first, it's far more challenging (and rewarding), and secondly, because the skills and tactics required to do this successfully are 100% transferable from one game to the next, no matter what other weapons might be available. If you're a gamer too & want to play CoD, Battlefield, Counter-Strike, or whatever, then PM me and we can swap details.

Because I've outed myself for my gaming hobby, I feel the need to clarify that I am not a little kid, or some kind of mall ninja. Just a normal dude with some goofy hobbies, one of which I share with everyone else on these forums. I came here just to talk shop on a shared interest, and I plan to spend some time writing knife reviews, modification tutorials, et cetera. It's taken me a long time to gain the knowledge I have, and no doubt some of that knowledge has come from reading posts on these forums over the years. I'd like to give back to the community and share what I know, so keep your eyes peeled for reviews and other texts from me in the future.

With out the good, bad, repetitive questions, sharing of photos, experiences, and people knowledge. There Internet forum would be places with no activity. Just site with zero members, information, etc? JMHO

I'd just like you to know that I'm new to your forum and I've felt compelled to post something controversial in the thread titled: "Army Signal Corps "Mystery Knife"'

I guess this was a bit intellectual for a bunch of douches such as yourselves. From what I can tell about this website, it's that it is a bunch of "hill-people" trading silly-ass opinions and "Hey! Do you wanna see my new 'nife pi'ture?" It's low IQ's such as yours that is the reason this country is in failure mode. Hope your proud.

It's "you're", Mr. Intellectual.

You post this a second time after getting the first thread closed, and you speak of failure. Hilarious!

I would just like to say thanks to all the membership here and introduce myself. I have been lurking here for a long time and have soaked up a ton of valuable information.. great site!

I use photobucket. There are several image hosting sites, and they all work basically the same. Take a pic , and upload it to your account ( yes you have to create an account, but it's free usually) , then copy the IMG link once uploaded and paste it. Hope that makes it clear as mud.

There is a "logout" button in the top right hand corner of your browser window. It seems senseless to stay here and waste your intellectual prowess on us "hill-people."

I don't understand? If someone doesn't like the conversation here, why hang out here?

New guy here! I have a lot of free time on my hands lately, so i thought I would come out of the shadows and start participating. I like all things sharp and pointy.
