We were all new here once

Hello,
I've been collecting and carrying knives since I was 12 years old my first new knife was a Swiss army but most of my knives were bought used through pawn shops. I recently have gotten more into knives and purchased a chris reeve small sebenza/snakewood inlay last week and I just have to say it's a sweet blade that I'm enjoying owning so far. Now Back to me I'm 20 years old and have 2 benchmades 903+grip, about 5 case knives, and two kershaw knives to name some. Like I've said I've always liked knives and always tried to by a good usa made blade. Although I've broken a couple thru playing as a younger kid a sypderco and buck 110 come to mind :(. Anyways I'm happy to be a new member and wish to learn even more.

Hey everybody. New to the site. I've come across it completely by mistake but am happy to have found it. In pursuing one of my other interests one day (primitive archery), I had stumbled upon some bushcrafter videos on YouTube. All of these bushcrafters all seemed to have awesome gear...most notably, their knives. I eventually found my way to some knife maker videos and my interest was piqued, to say the least. I have always had a passing interest in nice knives, but had no idea how far removed I was from real quality.

At first, I thought my one goal was to get my hands on a JackLore Classic. It was an innocent enough thought LOL...Then I found this site. The JackLore may still happen for me, God willing, but after seeing what I've seen on here over the last few days of reading, I now know how marrow minded I was being in focusing on that knife alone. Like I said, I had no idea how far removed I was from real, quality blades. I just didn't know this "lifestyle" existed.

Anyway, I'll go back to reading and admiring. Thanks for this site.

Hello All, I've lurked for while and have joined other sites, so I signed up here also. I'm a relative small collector in comparison to some. But I appreciate the quality of old time folders with natural bone or stag handles. I'm happy to be part of the group.

Man,how TRUE this is....Very well said too....I've had my share of all the below.
I've been away for awhile, and it seems like I'm newbie starting all over again....OHHHHH NNOOOOOOO.
I don't mean to be preachy, but those of us who have been here awhile know that sometimes newbies don't always receive much in the way of patience and understanding. Sometimes it's easy to jump on those who are new to knives, know less than we do, or simply have different tastes in knives. Sometimes criticism comes a little too easy on internet forums.

Remember that we were all new to knives once, we didn't know anything. And if we were lucky someone with a generous amount of patience and understanding was willing to take the time to teach us, even if it meant pushing their patience and understanding to the limit.

How many of us can say that every knife purchase we made was a smart one. How many of us at some point have bought a knife simply because we thought it was "cool", or "tactical", etc. How many of us have bought knives from questionable companies with silly marketing. I doubt that any here are perfect.

In my humble opinion, this forum should be about more than personal entertainment, it should also be a place to provide guidance to those who are new to this "hobby", even if that means exerting a bit more patience and understanding. After all, how would we want to be treated if we were new here? In the end, we can teach newbies a lot more with patience and understanding than with insults and criticism.

Of course, if you've been here a while then you better have thick skin, because you're fair game ;).

Just my thoughts.

Thank you, Killgar. Your comments were right on. I've been a member of various forums through the years, and I find that this particular behavior infects them all. Being new to a forum does not imply being new to the forum's main subject. I'm new to BladeForums, but I'm not new to knives. I'm 60+ years young, and I've been buying, using, collecting, and selling knives since grammar school. I know which end of a knife is pointy. However, I don't claim to know everything there is to know about knives, but I'm willing to ask and learn. I personally was the focus of more than one insult on other forums. The guy with a 10 year membership and 20,000 posts thinks he has infinitely more knowledge than the new guy with 1 month and 5 posts. My response to them is; Help the people who are new and really don't know the subject. Answer "dumb" questions, give sound advice. Don't treat someone who is willing and wanting to learn as a dummy. Of course, this is just my 2/100ths of a dollar.

I'm a noob here and am to knives. I agree, I'm here to learn fr the experience of the group. Places like Internet forums have been incredibly helpful with many of the other hobbies I am involved with (vaping, cars, ect). I've seen many turned off and loose interest in other forums due to poor interaction with veteran members. Thanks

Hey guys,

I am hope I found the right place to do a introduce post. Hi My name is John. I am from Eastern, Ky and 33 years old. I have always like knifes. I just now really got started collecting and learning. I got a one or two case knifes. Which all guys does a right of passage when he gets first case. One of them is a 9/11 edition knife with tin that books for around $60-80 the last time I checked.

I carry around a Cowan Creek pocket knife in my pocket. I was going to collect cases but, everybody does and they are kinda priced themselves out of collecting. After looking at a nice Confederate Civil War edition case knife gift set. I couldn't see myself putting down $100 for just a knife. So, I started collecting novelty knives.

I got a few the other day to start off. I got a Pistol, a woman leg with a high heel on, and a Confederate knife. I also found a switch blade that doubles as brass knuckles with a America flag design. I found that these knifes gets more of a talk going then a regular pocket knife. The pistol one got people talking when I pull it out.

I can't wait to get to know you guys and make new friends in this hobby.

Another new guy here from N.C. Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I look forward to interacting with you all.

Hello All,

I've been a knife collector for a few years and in that time learned a lot about these beauties but am anxious to learn more here. Currently my knife collection consists mainly of Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, Boker, SOG, Swiss Army, and a few custom knives made in Germany and Finland. I look forward to great discussions here.

Newbie here and so far I have a Cold Steel GI Tanto, Bud K combat machete and a set of Cold Steel throwing knifes

Hi everyone, this seems to be the place to do an introduction post, so that's what I'm gonna do.

A couple years back decided I needed a good folding knife, ended up with an orange Benchmade Griptilian 551. Carried it for a couple years, got an urge to try something new back in November, and ended up catching the collecting bug. Now in addition to the Grip I've got a Higonokami, Kershaw Emerson CQC-6k, Kershaw Cryo II Blackwash Tanto, Kershaw Chive, Spyderco Sage 1, and an Mcusta Katana. I've got a Spyderco Sharpmaker on the way to try my hand at sharpening.

I work in an industrial setting, so my knives get daily, if light, use both at work and at home. It's incredible how many common everyday tasks become so much easier and dignified with a good blade on hand, as opposed to tearing at packages and the like with fingers, teeth, keys, etc. A good knife has become an essential daily tool.

My other hobbies include wristwatches and fountain pens, so pocketknives were a given to catch my interest. I've done a lot of reading on here the past few months, glad to finally be a part of this awesome forum where I've already learned a ton.
