I'm a noob too. Although I have followed BladeForums on an off for a while, I have just recently registered here so I can participate, rather than lurk. :^)
I've been fascinated by sharps since I was very young, and both collected knives, swords, axes, etc. (in a fairly casual way, until recently) and used them. While I technically grew up as a city boy, I spent a lot of my youth either on family farms and ranches or backpacking in the Appalachians and the Rockies.
In the past year, following my father's death and inheriting his collection (he had the bug too!), I have rediscovered my love of sharps and have started collecting. I have a small but growing collections of traditional folders (some antique, some new), fixed blades, and more modern non-tactical folders (mostly, but not exclusively, Spydies with a smattering of others, including my new Doug Ritter Mk 1 mini-Grip in M390). I have become very interested in knife making (although have not yet tried my hand at it) and both the artistry and the materials that go into it.
I'm happy to be a part of this forum now, and am looking forward to participating, learning, and sharing! In the process, I'll try not t be one of THOSE newbies! ;^)
