I haven't been a member for a month yet, and I've already had good conversations and gotten good advise. I'd like to say thank you to everyone that has been so welcoming. I'm glad to be a part of this forum and I'm looking forward to future discussions.

I'm new here but at 75 years old I'm not brand new. I live deep in the hills and hollers of the Missouri Ozarks.
I've always had a fetich for knifes. I'd don't own too many, I'm not a collector. I buy for function and dislike gaudy.

Some cutting tools I own are

A Snow & Nealley Hudson Bay axe I bought at LLBean, its old enough to be made in USA, thanks to posts here I discover they're now made in China.
A couple of Herter's Improved Bowies, about $2 apiece 40 years ago. I've used the heck out of one of them, its still going strong.
My original Boy Scout folder from the 1950s made by Imperial.
Buck 110 lock back folder and 120 General
2 Swiss Army's both Victorinox
I have a Becker BK22 on order.
My EDC is a Harbor Freight folding utility which I like because the blade is replaceable, always sharp. I have a drawer full of folding utilities because every time I think I've lost my EDC I buy another only to find it again.
For years my EDC was a Buck Cadet... lost it. I found a nearly identical knife at Sears made by Camillus, SS blades and all, wood handle instead of plastic. I like it so much I bought another for "stock". Its in a drawer, still in the original box with papers and the receipt dated 1995.

Looking forward to learning new stuff here and fellowship.

I don't mean to be preachy, but those of us who have been here awhile know that sometimes newbies don't always receive much in the way of patience and understanding. Sometimes it's easy to jump on those who are new to knives, know less than we do, or simply have different tastes in knives. Sometimes criticism comes a little too easy on internet forums.

Remember that we were all new to knives once, we didn't know anything. And if we were lucky someone with a generous amount of patience and understanding was willing to take the time to teach us, even if it meant pushing their patience and understanding to the limit.

How many of us can say that every knife purchase we made was a smart one. How many of us at some point have bought a knife simply because we thought it was "cool", or "tactical", etc. How many of us have bought knives from questionable companies with silly marketing. I doubt that any here are perfect.

In my humble opinion, this forum should be about more than personal entertainment, it should also be a place to provide guidance to those who are new to this "hobby", even if that means exerting a bit more patience and understanding. After all, how would we want to be treated if we were new here? In the end, we can teach newbies a lot more with patience and understanding than with insults and criticism.

Of course, if you've been here a while then you better have thick skin, because you're fair game ;).

Just my thoughts.

Right on! You couldn't have described things better. The thing i found was all forums (at least the ones I've visited) no matter what the forum is about (by that I don't mean just about knives etc) seem to forget "We were all new here once"

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, yep I new here too but have grown up with knives and outdoors hunting etc in Australia.

If you haven't found it already, Spyderco has it's own sub-forum here at Bladeforums. You can find it by scrolling to the top of the screen and clicking on the white box at the upper left hand corner that says "Forum" (under the Bladeforums logo). That will take you to the forum directory. The Spyderco sub-forum can be found in the fourth box down, the one that says "Manufacturers forum".

Welcome to Bladeforums.

Sup guys. 37 or old male, from Indiana just over the border from Chicago. EDC is a Manix 2 or my old Delica. Looking to buy a camp knife soon. I'm thinking about the Shemp Rock. Happy to be here.

I joined roughly a month ago after I came across an Enzo Birk for sale on the exchange. Bought it immediately, and haven't been able to pry myself away from this community since. The way I see it, it's high past time I formally introduced myself.

I started down this knife hobby in a very innocent fashion, looking to replace my cheap, dangerous (closed on my hand twice before I wised up) Gerber Evo with an actual quality knife. Of course, down the rabbit (spyder?) hole I fell, snatching up knives that caught my eye and slowly developing an eye for some grail knives, and knives I desire to put through my weekend job that is incredibly heavy with reinforced cardboard (raw chemicals require some very intensive packaging). My M-F day job is very white collar in comparison to my weekend gig, and only the most subtle of gentleman knives are appropriate, and I never really get to show them off.

My top 3 knives that I own/use/love are my Mcusta Katana (Blue/Gold), my BladeHQ orange G10 Boker Plus Kwaiken, and my Boker Plus Cocobolo Urban Trapper. Also frequently found in my rotation (I use all my knives, "safe queens" do not interest me) are my aforementioned EnZo Birk, CRKT Heiho, and the CRKT Shizuka Noh Ken.

It's nice to meet you all, and I look forward to getting to know most of you better and sharing our love of knives.

Hello. Been lurking for some time. Great site! I have a fascination for folding knives and flashlights. Pictures, information are A+ here. I hope to add some pics soon. Look forward to 'seeing you around!

Hey gang, Here are some pics of the last knife I made, which was 23 years ago. Designed, completely hand ground, heat treated and hand finished by me. I found this site while searching around for info on current materials, designs etc. I kept running into stuff from this forum and it looks like a good community so I figured I should sign up! Still have lots of choices to make before I start in on a project and I'm betting some folks here will help me figure out what I want to do.

Hi All...newbie here with a pretty specific rational for joining.

My company manufactures very high end, utilitarian outdoor furniture and I want to begin adding some accessories to our range. Most notably, a variety of Chef's Knives, steak knives, cutlery, BBQ tools and knife blocks. Whilst I am familiar with some of the better known brands, I thought this would be an ideal forum to discuss various OEM options for my needs, and realise also that my Chef Knives may indeed be made by a very different outfit to my BBQ tools etc..

Which subforum do you suggest I create a post which would be most relevant and least burdensome for the forum regulars?

Cheers

Welcome to Bladeforums.

There is a subforum specifically dedicated to kitchen cutlery, etc. It can be found in the top box of the forum directory (Knife Specific Discussion). That subforum is entitled "Kitchen Cutlery & Tools".

You can find the forum directory by clicking on the white button that says "Forum" at the top left-hand corner of the screen under the Bladeforums logo.

Kitchen knives are also discussed in the General Discussion forum (where this thread is). More people are likely to see it in General Discussion.

Thanks Killgar, I will follow your suggestion and post in the General Forum, as my question is mostly related to OEM manufacturers of Kitchen Knives. Cheers

Hello all! Long time lurker finally took the plunge.

Welcome to Bladeforums!!

I'm a newbie as far as posting on this forum even though been registered for 2 yrs. I've always been impressed with this website. For many years I have relied on the information posted here for advice, opinions, direction, and answers to my many questions. I've been collecting knives for almost 40 yrs. If I haven't lost it...still have it...never sold it. I prefer high end knives..mostly vintage. I'm ready for the "initiation" when it comes. I feel I have some good info to share as well. I've accumulated enough questions on some of my knives that I have been unable to answer and need help. I feel this is the right place to attain the necessary knowledge. As soon as I figure out how to take a pic and post it, I will be jumping in. I hope you will find my treasures as interesting as my questions. Trying to puff up my chest and impress you with a list of my acquisitions is childish...I'm sure I would be humbled by others. Looking forward to having a good time with everyone out there. Later.......
