We were all new here once

Ya I have 30 guns or so. Still into blades, for many reasons. The ART, as in the beauty, the functionality,& the everyday practicality. Everyday someone says to me "why do you carry a knife ?" & everyday someone says to me "can I borrow your knife ?". Regardless of what anyone says a knife, like a crowbar or any other tool can be used for violence. or murder. Your car or a 2x4 will both kill people. It is not the object but rather the intent that is to blame. Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!! Thank you Paul Parent
Hey Surleyone, first, welcome to Bladeforums. Second, if you want to address your post to a specific individual, click on the box that says "Reply With Quote" down in the right hand corner of their post. Then look down in the "Quick Reply" box where you type your post. You will see that persons post quoted, and it will appear in your post when you post it (like your post above ^). Just make sure to only type your words after the [/QUOTE] at the end of the persons post.

Hi Guys, First post - just thought i should check in and say hi before blasting away with questions ☺ Just getting interested in folding frame locks after seeing some awesome ones on Instagram; Jens Anso designed ones specifically, like the Boker Albaross or Pipsqueek. I understand there is a bit of dis-like of frame locks from purists, calling them a fad or trend? But i like what i like ☺

First question that probably comes up roughly 10% of the time... so, left handed frame locks anyone?

Thanks!

Welcome .

Chris Reeve makes left-handed Sebenza's (frame locks). And you won't find a higher-quality folder.

Frame locks have been around quite awhile now. Far too long I think to be a "trend" or "fad" ;).

I have a Bradley Alias 1 frame lock. It's been my daily carry folder, and my work folder, for many years now.

Hi all. Just joined yesterday after visiting a couple of times. I live in a fairly rural part of central PA where everyone is an outdoorsman but I currently have no acquaintances that are passionate enough about knives to discuss them. I've carried knives every day since forever but couple of years ago for some reason I started to get somewhat sentimental about some of my EDCs-paranoid about losing them. I mentioned to my son that I was retiring some of them and he interpreted this as me wanting a direct replacement for my Buck 501 so he bought me a Benchmade small Summit, similar knife to the 501. I've had trouble sharpening this knife so I may be seeking advice. I can get an edge that looks good, feels good but is not really that sharp. I read that S30V is difficult to sharpen so maybe this is what is meant by that. Does S30V like a toothy edge like it originally had?

I enjoy tinkering with knives, maintaining and restoring. For some reason, buying online doesn't do it for me so I think my niche will be high quality, hard working knives that I find in antique malls and such. I hope to learn enough about them to recognize a gem when I see it. It's always been about the thrill of the hunt for anything I collect (knives, guitars, fly fishing and fly tying stuff) The Deadly Giant Mondo Bug is one of my fly patterns. Someday, I hope to attend a knife show if I can find one within driving distance. I usually hint at outdoor gear for birthday and Christmas gifts (birthday next week) and this year I dropped the hint for a Leatherman Skelletool so we'll see-I hope that's a good choice.

Hello everybody. I am from holland. Through "lessons learned" i Always try to choose for, my opinion, better quality full tang fixed blades. Most fixed blades i own are USA made. Kabar, Becker, SOG, Benchmade. Some european brands are also in the collection, Fallkniven, Glock, and maybe next month a Hill Knive. Hill knives are from a Dutch knife maker and represents an excellent made sturdy fixed blade which are even adopted by our own "green berets". I hope to make a usefull contribution to this awesome forum.

That's what i and maybe a lot more knive owners have to deal with.
Maybe there are usefull tipsandtools available on this forum.

Welcome.

In regards to questions about knife sharpening-

There is a sub-forum here at Bladeforums where knife sharpening is a frequent topic. It's called "Maintenance, Tinkering, & Embellishment". You can find this sub-forum by clicking on the white button that says "Forum" at the top left-hand corner of the screen under the Bladeforums logo. That will take to to the forum directory. You will find the "Maintenance, Tinkering, & Embellishment" sub-forum in the top box of that directory. Click on the name of the sub-forum, and it will take you right there.

There are many people who frequent that sub-forum who know a lot about sharpening knives, and various steel types.

Happy birthday!! Hope you get the skeletool. I've had the base model years ago and lost it during a trip to Yosemite
(Keep an eye out in the tall grass near Hogden Meadows guys!! if you find it it's yours haha, red colored skeletool)
I bought a CX version to replace that one. I'm not fond of having extra tools I rarely use so the Skeletool is perfect having the 3 most used features in a multi-tool.

Take a look at these posts from the Maintenence, Tinkering, and Embellishment board.

Thanks Man. It was a good birthday! Got the skeletool (nice), a mini LED flashlight and a bottle of fine cognac! My son, daughter and I all have birthdays the same week. I promised the boy a spotting scope but have not picked it up yet. He likes to shoot old military rifles.

Howdy everyone! I am very new to knife making and am looking forward to this forum for information and of course the expert advice that is out there. Thanks in advance to all the questions I will probably conger up, lol.

Newbie posting here, thought I'd introduce myself. Many interests including knives, firearms, hunting, hiking, tinkering in the shop and spending time with my family. I live at the near the white mountains in new Hampshire.

I don't talk for the sake of talking, but will when I have a question or input.

Mike

So with that said, could you possibly help me? I am new to this and have a small collection of knifes. I could not find this Particular one online. schrade sc 503 the pic appears to be a Barracuda. I see about every other pic out there, but this one.

Welcome to Bladeforums.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. The Schrade sc503 was a limited edition series of folders with scrimshaw graphics on the handles. Schrade produced the 503's with a variety of different animal images. A google search will provide far more information about them than I ever could. I don't know if Schrade produced a 503 with a barracuda on it, but they did produce one with a Pickerel on it (it's a fish that looks sort of like a barracuda).

If you want to ask the members of Bladeforums any questions about your knife, or the 503 series, I think the best place to ask would be the "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" subforum. You can find that subforum by scrolling to the top of the screen and click on the white "Forum" button on the left under the Bladeforums logo. That will take you to the forum directory. The "Traditional" subforum can be found in the top box. Click on the forum name and it will take you there. You should find several people willing to help you.

Hello,

I'm Walter White, new to blade forums and have recently started making my own knives. I've read a lot on here recently and this place is great. I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I hope to one day hone my skills to the level that many of the guys on here have.

With that said, I've been doing this approximately 3 months and here's the most recent knife I completed.

Thank you. Being a "Newbie" I an just thankful that no one has ripped off my head & shit down my throat. I hope that my comments will be usefull in that I may have something to contribute as I am not a "young" person & I have cut shit up for at least 50 yrs. Regards Surleyone

That's a really nice knife....I wish I could say I made something looked like that after 3 months of knifemaking.
