We were all new here once

Hi All, collector here from Australia. Been a regular on the Australian version of this forum for a while, good to finally be here and very pleased our recent law changes will allow us Aussies to bring in some good quality folders and flippers from overseas.

I enjoy buying and trading folding knives and look forward to giving it a go here.

New to this forum and did not see a first timers intro page. I'm from Florida and have loved knives since I was a kid. I know a lot more about guns and racing motorcycles than knives and hope to learn a lot here.

New member here! Member WTLJ referred me to Blade Forums and I've lurking for a couple weeks. I've learned quite a lot in the short time I've been reading so I thought it was time to join in the fun.

I currently have a Kershaw Leek and a few small Buck folders that I use for EDC. After reading here for a little while I can already tell I'll be adding some other knives to the rotation.

Newb here from the north! Just want to say hi :)

I'm a user, not so much a collector... Yet. Have quite a few blades from SAK, sog, ZT, etc... and love emersons. My EDC is currently an Emerson sheepdog and I am excited for my Survive GSO 4.1 to get here for my outdoor treks.

Looking forward to lurking around the site and finally getting around to getting a CRK or Hinderer possibly

New here, and if the username is puzzling it's latin for, as I originally read it, "inquisitive know-nothing." So... it fits.

My interest began many years ago when exploring charcoal forging but that never really progressed. What brought me here is the need to pick all of your brains regarding what steel, company, etc. is most likely to suit my needs, right now the focus is on replacing a work machete. I'll post that in a new thread, I figure in the General Discussion forum would be best. Thank you!

I'm new here but have lurked around the forum for various EDC knives in the past. Thought I'd finally join the and enjoy the conversation. Don't know how often I'll post, but I always enjoy reading the content that's put up.

Hello from Long Island NY. I don't remember seeing this thread back when I first signed up
in 2008 (my apologies). Just as many of you guys, I'm a long time lurker and visit the site from time to time.

Hi all. Like KNIGHTENFORCER, I've been a lurker on the forum for awhile and come on here when I need info on a new purchase. The knowledge base here is staggering, and I can always find an answer to any question I may have. Great topic and great forum!

Hello, good to be on this forum. I am a camera assistant from Germany but used to live in Indiana for a while. Always used more my Leatherman and Victorinox for work but recently I've gotten the itch for a good edc knife. I'm more interested in certain American knife companies, namely Chris Reeve and Strider, rather than the European ones.
Already got a WTB for a Star-Benza 21 Large as I can't order it through Wilson Combat.

I don't mean to be preachy, but those of us who have been here awhile know that sometimes newbies don't always receive much in the way of patience and understanding. Sometimes it's easy to jump on those who are new to knives, know less than we do, or simply have different tastes in knives. Sometimes criticism comes a little too easy on internet forums.

Remember that we were all new to knives once, we didn't know anything. And if we were lucky someone with a generous amount of patience and understanding was willing to take the time to teach us, even if it meant pushing their patience and understanding to the limit.

How many of us can say that every knife purchase we made was a smart one. How many of us at some point have bought a knife simply because we thought it was "cool", or "tactical", etc. How many of us have bought knives from questionable companies with silly marketing. I doubt that any here are perfect.

In my humble opinion, this forum should be about more than personal entertainment, it should also be a place to provide guidance to those who are new to this "hobby", even if that means exerting a bit more patience and understanding. After all, how would we want to be treated if we were new here? In the end, we can teach newbies a lot more with patience and understanding than with insults and criticism.

Of course, if you've been here a while then you better have thick skin, because you're fair game ;).

Just my thoughts.

Well said! I would say it applies to any subject. No one is born with the knowledge.

Hello, been researching knife making for awhile and am finally taking the plunge. picked up a few pieces of 1084 and gathering a few more tools to get started on my first knife.

Hey since it seams that you have been here awhile I have a question. I live in Wisconsin and i found a awesome OTF knife and i was wondering if you knew if it would be legal for me to just carry around i am 17 years old here is the link http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PSZH4F6?m=A208I36LLBFUFT&ref_=v_sp_widget_detail_page
Thank you
Welcome :)

I'm not familiar with Wisconsin knife laws, but there is a sub-forum here at Bladeforums specifically for asking such questions. Here's how to find it-

Scroll to the top of the screen and click on the white button that says "Forum" under the Bladeforums logo (in the left hand corner). That will take you to the forum directory. In the top box you will find "Knife Laws", click on that and you can post your question (as long as you're logged in). You may or may not receive the answer you're looking for. There are knowledgeable and helpful people who frequent that sub-forum.

I'm new here, but not new to knives. I'm a member who said yes to accepting the bold name (moderator) over on THR. I'm trending back to my first gadget love of pocket knives, so I figured I'd hang out here and delve deeper into the addiction.

I am also a new member, long time lurker of this great forum. I have been collecting and enjoying knives since I was a kid.

Figured I'd join the bandwagon and make my first post here. Love all things sharp and pointy. Been collecting for years and will place future blame of my empty pockets on this hobby.

As a brand new knife enthusiast I just came across this forum hoping to meet some like minded people and to learn as much as I can about my knew hobby. I've had a curiosity and appreciation for pocket knives from the first time my grandpa let me hold his old Buck 110. I wanted one so bad but was too young to own one at the time. When I was old enough I bought a bunch of cheap folders from places like Ace Hardware or where ever I could get my hands on one, (never a Buck till recently) but those cheap no name knives would fall apart on me in no time till about 4 years ago when I was purchasing a Springfield 1911 from my local gun store I came across my first high end pocket knife. Well high end to me anyway. It was a ZT 0350. I of course paid way too much for it but I loved it. I carried it for almost four years straight, put it through hell and it's still going strong. Built like a tank! I liked it so much I bought one for some of my close friends and family for Christmas and birthdays and what not.

I recently started broadening my horizons and started checking out different knives and found company's like Spiderco, Kershaw and Benchmade and I've basically just spiraled out of control these last couple months which brought me to this forum. Within the last 6-8 weeks I bought 4 Spiderco's (PM2, Manix 2, Delica 4 and a Caly 3.5), 2 Benchmades (940 and a Griptilian), a Microtech Ultratech, a CRKT Hissatsu, a Kershaw CQC-8 along with a couple cheap knives I heard good things about on YouTube, (I know, take that for what it's worth) a Taiwan Lighting OTF and a Sanrenmu 710 which I really like for a $12 knife. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself and thought this would be as good a place as any. I have my eye on a few more knives from Spiderco, ZT and Benchmade. I eventually hope to own a Microtech Socom, a Large Sebenza 21 as well a few others before working my way up to some of the amazing custom knives I've seen some of you guys make yourselves. I welcome any suggestions as to certain knives a noob like myself should look into. Thanks all. Really looking forward to sharing a new passion and possibly learning some new stuff here.
