We were all new here once

Yeah, not welcome on British blades, accused twice of being someone else then banned for arguing about it,made me laugh after to be honest, different Ip addresses so they came to the conclusion it was me and I moved house.
Hope you lot ain't that strange and hope I ain't expected to take poo off the owner in a dictator like fashion

I've been lurking for weeks, checking out all the fine custom knives.

Recently purchased a Becker BK-14 in stone washed steel and love it!

I'm think 1075, but i'm not 100% sure. Because I want a steel that can hold and edge but able to take a beating without chipping or breaking, and of course not cost a lot. Plus i'm not sure because I have yet to dive much into the world of steel choices, which i know is a bottomless pit of information.

D2 is about the best out their in a folder in my opinion. D2 steel is some of the toughest stuff I have ever came across. It is PH hardened at about 62.It is not easy to sharpen but use a diamond hone and it is very manageable and you wont need to sharpen it very often. It is rust resistant but not SS and it will not scratch up like other steels do.I give it a 9 out of 10 just because it is a bit more work to sharpen unless you have a good diamond hone.

There's a wealth of knowledge here...glad I found the forum! Looking forward to learning more than I ever wanted to know about tools that cut.

I had an issue here in the beginning, could not use my primary email address, kept getting rejected. Ended up creating a new email address and no issues since. Welcome to BF!

New guy here too...I read much more than I post.I moderated a cigar board in the past and realize one must pay his dues. Hell....I was a rookie cop once. I understand.

Yeap, I have ta agree wih a 100% for I'm new here but I've been around some knives. I don't know everything but I've found I learn from my mistakes. With that said, I d ave a question.....I have a Air Force survival knife and is it best ta and sharpen on a sharpenin rick, or is it better ta use the diamond sharpening systems. I've sharened knives many ways but this one has the KA-BAR designblade. Any info will be greatly appreciaed.

Aye, I'm relatively new to the forum, and find myself lurking around far more than I actually post. There's a ton of fantastic information here, which is what led me to join in the first place. I just think that the sheer immensity of the site can be overwhelming at first.

Where do you hang your hat brother? Welcome to the forums. Always nice to see another LEO here. I have 10 years on, first in Colorado, now in Virginia....

Doesn't matter who designed the blade, they all have a final edge that is simply a combined angle resulting in a final sharp edge. I personally sharpen on a set of stones, finish on ceramic and strop. Or if I want a nice sharp convex edge, google the "mouse pad sharpening" style. Mimics the slack belt edge a some makers will put on a blade. The diamond systems are great to get your angles correct, but not necessary as long as care is taken to be consistent. The work sharp sharpener is a cool little tool that puts a heck of an edge on almost anything.
Welcome bg the way.

Hey Guys! This is Gordon checking in. I am really excited about joining the forums here and I look forward to participating in discussions. I met some of you all at the Blade Show this year and really enjoyed your work!!

Back into blades, after many years away. Wow - what a wealth of products available! Appreciate the info found on these pages. Appears that the biggest two cult followings here are Becker and Busse (and kin). Just received a BK2, and now looking at an RMD. Cheers.

Well, I'm new here, and wanted to comment. I'm not new in life, or new to forums, just new to this forum, and a new knife "collector". I am a pipe collector... (smoking pipes... and no, not that kind, but the expensive tobacco kind.) In my pipe collecting club here in Chicago, we say if you have more than one pipe, you are a collector. I'm an idiot, cuz I have a LOT and some are stupidly expensive. But... I'm seriously considering quitting smoking all together... and selling my pipes. I need something to occupy my time... how about knives? So I look in the old drawer, and low and behold I already have some... and this get me interested. So I go on the big auction site, where I sell and buy pipes and tobacco... and there are about a MILLION knives. This begins the journey. Holy cow. And then I stumble upon this forum. Now as I stated, I'm not a stranger to forums. I belong to a couple for pipes. I tend to be a bit leery of such forums, because there are a few bombasts, and preachers, and people who can't help but drag their politics into every conversation they engage in. I have no tolerance for such folk. I am here to talk about knives. If I wanted to know your religious beliefs, or your politics, I would send you a private email, and we could meet for some coffee and a bowl of strong English tobacco. No fighting...Anyway... I digress. This forum is amazing. You guys are awesome. There is SO MUCH information here is it frankly daunting. It is blowing my mind. Honestly. So I am venturing out and making a comment. I will say that since I looked at knives on that auction site... can I say eBay here?... I have bought 5... wait... 6. What? I'm nuts. Now I need to sharpen them correctly... just type sharpen into the search bar here... thanks for letting me vent. I'm happy to be here.

But... I'm seriously considering quitting smoking all together... and selling my pipes.

Don't. You'll regret it. Keep 5-7 of your favorites in rotation and ditch the rest. I'm new here too. Been browsing a long time. Not new to the pipe or to knives.

Welcome Phillpsych. I am in much the same place as you in terms of pipes. I'd much rather just cut down than quit, but that is hard to do. Habits you know...

We were all new here at one time. That's a fact. Just ease into the general knife thing and begin to get comfortable. It's okay to buy stuff that catches your eye. My one comment is don't believe everything you read about SOG knives. They still make some useful products.

I hear that, i say im a disabled vet and next thing i know i have several old timers on here ripping me a two bedroom, 2 bath, double wide butt hole! Not everyone has the luxury of being able to do knife hobby full time, like some do.

Great thread. And it gets tiresome when there is a testosterone pizzing contest with x trying to out macho y. It takes way less energy for me to admit that I am less skilled or knowledgable than another. I actually feel a little intimidated on some forums at times because the expectation is to be macho man extraordinare, and I get caught up in it.

You got about the friendliest advice you could, no one ripped you a new one for being a vet, they corrected you for acting like a shameless mooch.

Greetings,

I just joined this site and I was looking at a FMFBM knife in one of the forums. Can any one advise me if this knife is in production and the address of the forum that I was looking at ? I might buy one but I want it with a leather sheath. Someone ... talk to me.

Thanks,
MJ
