Whacha Been Up To......

I made a sheath.
I forgot to take a photo.
You'll have to take my word, it was nice.

:D
How have ya been my friend?

Nichole has been busy. Got this purse done:

She's been making makeup bags for friends and family for some time but now she is ready to put them on the website as a product we offer for sale.

She does them in two different sizes:

Had to build a different sheath for this one, the oak carved sheath I'd originally started for it didn't turn out:

Working on a batch of blades to send off to heat treat. 103 in this batch. Drilling on the holes in the tangs today and then have to stamp them with my makers mark and they'll be ready to ship out.

First time posting in here. A gentleman reached out to me about possibly rehandling one of his knives (with stacked leather) and making a sheath for it. After a little trepidation, I told him to go ahead and send the knife and I would at least get a sheath built for it. I also began researching what it would take to put a stacked leather handle on the knife. After a few weeks (and many hours of researching and watching videos on how others had approached theirs) I gained the confidence to give it a shot.

Here's the before picture (with the pommel removed):

A few WIP pics, including the jig I built to compress the leather:

And the finished product. I'm a perfectionist by nature so I'll always find the flaws in my work, but overall I am pretty happy with it and hope that the gentleman getting it back will be happy as well. Next up will be the sheath.

Nice! :)

sbh06 sbh06 and I was remiss. Welcome to Whacha Been Up To..... Thanks for posting and keep them pics a coming.

Thanks gentlemen, I’m happy to be here. There are a lot of great craftsmen here and I have a lot to learn about leather work at this point. As an engineer in my day job I like new challenges and finding ways to take an idea and turn it into something real, and doing leather work provides a way to do that outside of work.
