What are you watching & why? (splain)

In this current sea of streaming and torrents of mediocrity, I have also resorted to going back and rewatching some of the older series on MAX (HBO). Earlier on this year I rewatched GoT in its entirety which was quite enjoyable despite how it had eventually wrapped up. I just started watching ROME which was originally aired in 2005 - 2007 with 2 seasons before it was nixed by HBO for its extremely high production costs. I really liked and enjoyed ROME back when while the risqué naughty bits embedded in the series never daunted me (NSFW or family viewing). ROME also commanded pretty high viewers' ratings and critical accolades.

Anyhoo, as I typically do with these British series when I don't see or hear from their actors, I tend to look them up and I was really bummed to find out that Ray Stevenson, the actor who played the role of (my favorite made up character) Titus Pullo, had just recently passed away earlier on this year at age 58 due to a serious illness, very sad. Some of the other ROME actors, specially Tobias Menzies (Brutus) and Ciarán Hinds (Caesar) have been in tons of things since. If you have never watched ROME, I highly recommend.

RIP.

Watch Barbarians on Netflix. The events take place before Rome and it's a great segway into the events that happen in Rome.

I'm also watching forged in fire....

Sometimes the competitors make me audibly yell "No! Don't do it!". I know the show is edited for drama/effect, etc., but that's not what I mean. People make the same exact mistakes that multiple other competitors made in the past (i.e., water quenches, multiple quenches to fix a warp, trying to dry whiteout with the forge, peeling a Damascus canister when it's unnecessary, etc.).

I constantly find myself wondering, "Do these people even watch the show?" Or "How often do they watch the show?" Not saying that I could do any better, just something I'm genuinely curious about.

I am finally watching Game of Thrones....

Read the books long ago, but have never really gotten into the TV series. I always told myself that they would never compare to the books (which I loved) and somehow diminish them for me. Gotta say, the series is pretty good, and a good reminder of how great the books were.

Plus timing is perfect, because Winter is definitely coming where I'm from! 😄

It's really good, until it isn't. It's still worth watching.
