What are you watching & why? (splain)

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

A series spinoff on AppleTV (got 3 free months with some promo), of the newer Godzilla reboot.

The production values and SFX in these series nowadays (like GoT) is pretty impressive. Pretty much feature movie grade.
I got the free trial too. I watched both episodes....gotta say, it's moving pretty slow

Hulu is currently running a Black Friday sale which will expire on 11/28. Twelve months of their basic streaming service with ads for 99 cents a month, one year commitment which I suppose you can cancel at any time but billed 99 cents per month! This is for their $7.99 basic plan with ads, so basically $84 off on annual basis making it $12 annually. I am up for re-siging based on this offering. #mymoochgameisstrong

Pity they don't have a similar discount for the no-ads plans. After cutting the cord/cable, my patience/tolerance for ads has decreased significantly.

Watched:

- The Killer on Netflix. Entertaining enough movie but I would not renew my subscription just for this one. Michael Fassbender is good in it, it is fast paced but one of those sorta mind scramblers so need to pay some attention to the plot. It is directed by David Fincher (Seven, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Fight Club) so see my previous sentence! I had always thought that Fassbender was German but despite having been born in Germany to a German father, he apparently identifies as Irish since his mother is from Ireland, huh!

- The Railway Men on Netflix. Limited 4 parts series based on the true events of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal India back in 1984 which I clearly remembered as a young man then but didn't know enough about the details of how the Bhopal residents were faced with and what ensued thereafter the deadly MIC gas leak from that factory. Heavy Indian accents while speaking (dubbed?) in English so the subbies had to be turned on. If you can stomach these kinda things, I would definitely recommend.

I started watching The English, a Western miniseries on Prime with Emily Blunt and a bunch of other familiar faces. I generally like to watch miniseries all in one go but I couldn't quite stay up late enough last night to watch the final episode. I'll probably do that tonight or tomorrow.

Despite the premise being a bit of a tragic love story, amidst all the usual tropes (revenge, betrayal, etc.), it is well acted and I found myself getting drawn in. The cinematography is a bit odd and I am not sure I understand all the lighting choices in the shots but I soon forgot about it as the show progressed.

I'm a sucker for Westerns and I think Emily Blunt is a fine actress - I think it's worth a gander.
