What Buck are you carrying today?

I've been wanting a brown micarta 110 to match a few of my other knives, so I thought I would take on the task myself. I had some old micarta block insulation that I've had setting around for years so yesterday I gave my most used S30V 110 some new shoes. I like how it turned out. The insulation block has some unique character to it. I also left the bolsters with a brushed finish since this is my main user. I'll have this one with me today.

Nice work! And the grain and character in that old Micarta is head and shoulders above the new-manufacture stuff. Any idea of a date on it?

Thank you! I agree with you on the character. It's really unique. I have no idea how old it is. I actually bought it from a knife supply place that had set up at a gun show in Dallas about 20+ years ago. I planned on making some 1911 grips with it but never got around to it. The guy at the booth had a bunch of the stuff cut into usable sized blocks. He commented that it had come out of some kind of electrical switch box. We forget - at least I do - that was one of its original uses.

Happy Friday! Today is a 100 year 532 BuckLock - number 60/100.

She came to me as what I’ll call a light user. Some carry marks on the metal frame, but the edge and blade look untouched and the scales and logo are unblemished as well. She smells like a musty leather sheath and there are remnants of green verdigris in the cracks and some of the filework. Someone cleaned her up pretty good and I’ll carry that ball a little farther down the field.

The scales are listed as white Micarta. It’s the finest grain Micarta I’ve ever seen, that’s for sure. To my naked eye it looks like plastic - smooth and polished.

If anyone has an extra empty wooden box laying around that these 100 year BuckLocks came in, please let me know. She’s not a safe queen, but it would be cool to link her back up with a box.
