What did you do to/with your Becker today?

Started a fire with my 16 & 9 last night. Still too warm for evening fires, IMO - I was sitting ~ 20 feet away - but my little one really wanted to have a "bonfire".

Just the other night, split some maple for a fire

Tossed a pot on the hot coals

Dinner is almost ready

Pretty sure we're talking about brie....View attachment 571903
Wow that's the smallest Brie I have seen like a baby Brie, nice. Must be made especially for the USA market I bet, as you have very strict rules regarding cheeses. Still beats the lots and lots of old 'fake' cheddar you get over there. You should try a Blue Brie if you can get it there, it has little blue cheese veins in the centre - very nice!!

Looks like a feast!

I looked at my 5 yesterday, I'm a hard core...........poser. But it is nice to know that they are there when I decide to get the rag out.

I had some fun today. I was always pretty doggoned sure that the plastic bead on my all time favorite (so far) fixed blade knife was a temporary situation. I was just never sure where I was going to find the bead that I wanted to replace it with. I knew I wanted a skull.

This week my son and I found ourselves in our favorite American Indian store where they have a great section of millions of beads. Only problem is no holes were near big enough for my paracord. I needed a hole the size of the one in that blue bead. I decided that for $1.50 I woulld try my hand at enlarging the existing hole. Nothing ventured, nothing gained I reckon.

So I started drilling the hole out a little larger. And this was not easy for me I'll tell you what. I did use an electric drill and I did have to take the little skull out and drill it from the top and then the bottom a few times. It was stubborn.

I used a little bit larger of a drill each time until I got it almost as big as that blue beads opening. And let me tell ya, that little skull got HOT. And it stayed hot for a long time. Anyway....

I was pretty sure at the git go that the jaw would not survive, but I'm just going with it. Something I didn't expect was that the eyes opened up as well so that you can see the cord through the sockets. This might be cool in the future with some bright colored cord.

Of course his jaw did NOT survive and I was still not sure that this would work at all. But I carried on and hit it with a file. I finished it up with with some sort of rough brillo pad type deal I found laying around and it smoothed it out great. I'm still just winging it.

Holy cow! I think this is actually going to work. I had to pull two strands out of the paracord to get it to fit through the hole of the skull but it worked fine. The first knot I tied was just a regular old knot as that is all I know how to do. But it looked terrible. The skull hung all crooked. So I went out to the Net and learned how to tie another one. They just called it a "lanyard knot".

I think it turned out pretty nice. $1.50 and a little perseverance and I am happy. I think it will last a good long time too. Just after I finished I set my 24 down to clean up my work area and when I turned around and saw the knife and lanyard it caught me off guard and I was like, "Oh yeah! Nice!"

Great fun and I learned something as well....

Regards as always,

Mrs. C.

I've always wondered if that was doable, as I've seen many beads with small holes that would look amazing on a lanyard. Appreciate the test. Looks groovy!
