What did you rehang today?

Found this cleaning out my grandfather's shed. I wish I took before pics. I guess it was either a salesman's sample or a toy from a kids tool set. Either way it's real steel and wood. Cleaned it up, gave it an edge, re-hung it and treated the handle

Vaughan refers to their currently produced version as an Oyster Hatchet. I'm still not certain of the intended use, but it's a safe bet that it is neither a salesmans sample nor child's toy. I'm convinced that there was never such a thing as a salesmans sample of any axe, though I could be wrong.

I never cared for the way this Husqvarna came from the factory. I like them to sit hard on the shoulders.

Lots of really good looking axes here lately!

DarthTaco - I noticed your axe here. Do you know what model number it is?

I am putting together a Finnish axe and was curious. Yours looks to have a lot larger eye than most I've seen judging by the amount of wood poking through at the top.

No collar recess/solid collar, long bit. Scale is throwing me off - is it a large hatchet or a full size axe? Did you get a weight on it before you hung it?

Craftsman bit on a Ames True Temper hickory haft I bought at Lowe's

Rickoff, Nice hang as well!

Evansville jeep axe. Thought it deserved a velvicut handle. It's a 4 lb dayton

That is a fine handle. I have only used an Evansville Pulaski but they seem like quality tools

Thanks jb, I went through the stock at two stores during my travels and found three with real good grain orientation for about 11$ each including tax.

Hung this little guy back on the original handle after soaking it in blo. It's got a odd shaped handle but I kind of like it. It's a 3 and a half pound plumb connie.

Are you asking what I would want to sell it for? Depends on what it is. Condition, brand etc. Really messed up, overly worn stuff I try not to buy. But US made heads in good shape aside from surface rust usually go for $12-20 with most going for $14-15. This is for good ones. Something a little unusual, in top shape may go for up to $24. Swedish stuff a bit higher. If you are asking, I can find you something nice for $20 shipped Priority. I have a couple clean carpenter hatchet heads that would be less. Also, I can fit two heads in the box so shipping is free on the second one.

BTW, pricing is roughly the same for full size heads. A bit more for Connie's because I love those, and Maine heads are case by case.

Very reasonable of you JB, they are either scrap or antique stores want a fortune around here. Tried to PM you but I don't seem to have the option
