What did you rehang today?

hate it when something like that happens

Yeah, don't we all. :)
By the way, this head has been beaten on in the center. Am I right in assuming that someone in it's past tried to snug it up by hammering on the middle of the eye?

someone did that with my cruiser swamper, i guess they assumed that it had been worked too hard and the eye had shrunk, im lucky it didnt stress crack, the thing is cast

Small axe head on a straight 28" handle. This isn't really a fancy axe, but I like it a lot, its got a really nice blade profile for cutting.

Another view of that Snow & Nealley head on a short little handle. Good kindling splitter.

And my only double bit

My dad wasn't a double bit guy - I have half a dozen singles of various sizes (mostly small since he was more of a chainsaw + truck axe user), but had to buy this double on ebay. I wanted to try it for some of the easy splitting I do up here. Having never hung a double I used the lesser of the two handles I got from HH - better grain perhaps, but drying checks. Didn't get it as tight as I'd have liked, probably due to the eye ridges. So far its holding up well though.

I love the shape of the handle on the snow and neally.

Thank you, I did a fair amount of reshaping to improve it. The house axe handle it started as was extremely chunky. I didn't get it quite as thin as I'd have liked, I don't really trust my eye yet for these. I have another small axe with a really gorgeous handle - more like the shape I was going for. No idea how it survived dad's rough treatment, it was the only handle that did :D

I finished this one last night, a super clean Legitimus Connie on a nice Lowe's (Ames True Temper) handle. Sharpened and oiled.

o, i see that golf ball file handle, also, how're you liking your surform? mine's pretty old but still great for re-shaping dry stuff. lastly, what's with the handle in the middle, is that an experiment to get more life out of the handle?

I really like the golf ball handle. The sure form is great. These handles are always oversized so I need to remove a lot of material. Way easier than dicking with my spoke shave. It also leaves some character in the wood that matches well with the vintage heads. That middle axe is the next one to work on. When I get a head cleaned up and ready to hang I match it with a handle from the bin that fits and feels appropriate.

This one's going to be like putting my dick in the vise. The socket is wider than what the factory cuts do I have to use a blank. The sureform really helps in the initial sizing.

My last knock out tool got bent dicked (it's a piece of a cutting board from goodwill. Luckily the head was deep enough to knock out with a piece of old handle. Looks like I'm headed to the thrift shop to find another thick cutting board.

I like that!

That's a good looking little hatchet. I like the long toe and the wedge shaped eye and poll.
