  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What did you rehang today?

I like this one and it will stay with me because the handle is so nice and slim, although I don't recognize the stamp. This came to me already fit but there was no kerf or wedge. I scraped and oiled the handle and fixed the wedging issue.

that's a nice'n thin handle on that one

This was another junk store find. I think it was $2 maybe? It has become my wedge driving hammer for axes. With the pointed side I can seat the wedge a little deeper after letting it set over night also! Learned that on here lol. This was a very old ax handle I had.

I believe this is a Hubbard special. I remember a post by Square Peg talking about Hubbard. What was this specifically for? Blacksmith hammer? Thanks for looking. This was the end of a sledge handle I slimed down.

That first one is a spalling hammer, and you should never strike the flat with another hammer. Get yourself a wooden mallet or carve one from a branch or firewood for driving wedges.

Thanks JB, I thought I remembered seeing one in one of your posts. I assumed the flat end was very hard because there was a small chip taken out of it. I really like it. Being four pounds you really don’t need to swing it. It’s more of a controlled drop.

here's that house axe i promised a bit ago

man i can NOT take a good picture today, sorry

I like the grind u did. Is that a house handle? I have never ordered from them. A local farm store uses them and the handles are nicely shaped and pretty thin but they are all worpped so bad. Some of them Even have knots in them. But I have heard good things from the “hand picked” handles.

thanks, no i made it from some red oak that was firewood. house does have some good hand picked handles, only in small 1-2 handle groups though

WARNING PICTURE HEAVY

The last four days and nights of a little here and a little there...than my lack of patience coupled with my desire to chop caused a minor setback, but remedied nicely.

4lbs.
28" Slightly curved (leaning against a wall maybe) but wicked handle

Thanks for looking

That is a great looking axe Miller!
The pictures are appreciated as well - fun walk to a fine tool.

Thank you AgentH!
I am pretty siked you enjoyed my journey thru pictures of my Connecticut True Temper.
I tell ya, I knew I shouldn't swing today after only setting the wedge this morning...it just kept screaming ast me..."Swing Me! Chop with Me!"...what could I do?:thumbsup:;)
Is it bad I start and end everyday thinking of what I did that day and what I want to do tomorrow with an axe or crosscut, and or go hunting for one or both?:D:thumbsup:

Wow.... TT Connie... you are a lucky man my friend. I am turning green all over right now with jealousy....

You have been turning up some great pieces!
I have come up empty recently on picking up a new axe, wether it be ground, polished or overpriced or just not what I want...it's been a dry month for me...I hate dry spells
I really enjoyed all the different file work for this True Temper rehang and resurrect, as well as how Damn sexy she looks in person. The handle takes on this reddish deep sheen and with its swell and slight "wall curve", this and my red stripe may need to take turn riding in the truck with me;)

I can't get the time, at the right time, to get back to my crosscut...of which I have worked this week to make the time for my Crosscut tomorrow:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Yes, it's a mortal sin. But confessing is a start. Now go say 3 Our Fathers and 12 Hail Marys so that you may be forgiven.
lol

its a "prehang" if you get it...
i wanted to carve a handle to see if the length felt good, the balance, and so on
the wood is pine and its so lovely to work with
my birch handle blanks are all used up, so i need to find me some more
