What did you rehang today?

I don't know it it's the right way but I try for this on my wedges. The ones that start like this seem to hold well. I like to knock, follow with my knife, knock, and repeat.

I use this same method. I just smack the bottom of the haft until I get some curls below the eye. Shave them down with my knife just enough to make a little more progress and repeat. I prefer this method to taking off the head numeruos times, trimming it and puting the head back on. I usally end up with a really good fit around the eye without any open space.

Hey guys, I have been crazy busy with work and family stuff but this week things calmed down enough to hang so stuff! First up is the 4 pound Falls City Kelly Works! It weighs 3.9 pounds. It is literally near factory edge except for one edge that has been thinned which I still need to clean up. I love this ax!! The handle came from a Woodslasher I recently purchased so at the top of the handle it looks like it has eye ridges but it does not. Next up is the 2.25 Rixford ax. It has a vintage 19inch handle that I got it with, scrapped it and requested it. This ax is marked 2 1/4 and has not been touched!! The pole has been used but that’s it. Then last but not least is a crosspien hammer I got today at the flea market. It has a vintage octagon handle that is nice and slim. Feels amazing in the hand and works great with my wooden planes!!! Thanks for looking guys!

that rixford reminds me, how has that little handle i sent you turned out?

Oh you mean this little guy! It is a work of art! I still need to sharpen the bit and maybe do a couple more coats of oil but man it feels great in the hand! In the second picture I tried to show how the handle follows the lines of my hand. It was like it was made for me at the start lol. And sadly I have not returned the favor yet. But I will soon my friend!!

that looks really great!
Oh and the only thing I touched on this handle was squaring off the palm swell.
i guess it's been a while since i'v seen it because that looks like a totally different handle bud!

I just finished the regang on this old Michigan that was given to me at a family barbecue yesterday.
The haft is a replacement that it was " hung " on a long time ago.
Really someone just crammed it on as far as it would go and pounded this chrome plated thingamajig in it.

The handle seems to have some nice curve and a real nice fawns foot.
There's lots of checks, but no actual cracks and surprisingly it didn't warp from all those years of leaning in my uncle's garden tool closet.
It's not sharpened yet , if I even sharpen it.
I don't exactly have much use for it, but I couldn't let it set unused and rusty for any longer.
( Offered to fix it up for him and he said " take it and do whatever you want with it, I don't need or use it ")

My girlfriend got me a few axes at a yard sale the other day. The little sweetie... she was so proud! One was a Woodings Verona maul, one a Michigan pattern made in Taiwan and this little guy. No markings except a letter D which i understand may be a Kelly quality control stamp? The steel is if a fair hardness. Good enough to hang it on one of my good handles. Also it has eye ridges. 4 of them.

and the small capitol letter D

The ridges in the eye are a dead give away. Definitely a TT Woodslasher. Should be a great user and hold a nice edge!! Also, I really like the pattern of the steel. I would t wire wheel that!

Finished up two more self made ash handles.

The first may be a Kelly with eye ridges, I can’t tell as it was all sanded down. Not really my style but the person this is for likes shiny stuff anyway, lol.

The other is a 3.2 Kelly, probably my favorite one so far. This one might get some use, so it gets a sheath.

I already posted the two smaller ones, but these four are to be Christmas gifts for family members, they may not necessarily all get used, but I think they will be appreciated for what they are. Cheers!

Beautiful work man! Very nicely done!

I got this one by accident, the auction said small double bit so I assumed it was a cruiser and didn’t ask any questions about dimensions. I wasn’t looking for a saddle cruiser but I made up a handle and tried it out today. It will split and chop for sure, but so will single bits this size, and they have a poll which makes them more useful for me anyway. I like the way it looks, and it does feel nice to swing, but honestly I think it’s kind of dangerous, so it will likely spend most of its time on the wall. Maybe it would throw well at short distances? But then I don’t want wreck my new handle, lol.

I'm with ya. Saddle axes don't hold any attraction to me for the reason you stated, no poll. I mean come on, who really needs 2 tiny axe bits because they're going to dull the first one? What, did you strike a rock while sitting in the saddle? Tall rock!

If I find one I flip it.

That is really nice. No makers marks? I am not getting the Norlund vibe from that at all.
If you ever want to trade it for something let me know.
