What did you rehang today?

. Finished this one for my son today. A Collins Boy Scout with a custom handle of Mud Cured Bodock. Dug up some fence posts 3 years ago behind the house. The mud cures the wood a pleasant green color after 60 years or so. This was the only piece I had big enough for any sort of handle. Still has some yellow to it.

Did a quick-restore for my step-grandfather as a last minute christmas gift. Marshall Wells Zenith boys axe. I had a new handle to put it on but decided to keep the original handle as it was in better condition that I thought. The whole quick-restore took about 40 minutes.

:thumbup:Thats a beautiful job you did there WarnerB, he's bound to be thrilled with that! I also reuse old handles if at all possible as they are usually much better quality and have better curves, swells, patina etc. Did you use cold blue to color the head? Very nice work!:

Her's a Plumb Daton pattern that I rehung a while back. Used it today to split a load of wood for a bonfire where're having Xmas eve. Will add a photo of that if they turn out.

Did a Säter today, on a birch handle. The head is pretty pitted from rust so I didn't wanna hang it on a hickory handle. The grain orientation is bad, but what the hell. Can always make a new handle

Beautiful hand made handle!

Looks like an American style axe with its thicker cheeks and narrow eye. Säter Banko did a good export business at one time.

Thank you! It has good steel, took a very sharp edge. Do you know what years Säter Banko exported axes?

Happy New Year laddy. I love these 'one off' creations of yours. Grain-wise there is absolutely nothing wrong with this handle (there is no run-out along the length plus the handle is straight) which makes diagonal grain advantageous over strictly vertical or horizontal. Get out there and see if you can accidentally break it. If ever I get my hands on nice staves of Ironwood I'm going to send you some.

Happy new year to you too Sir, and thank you very much. I'm going on a little trip tonight, and I will take this axe with me. I believe this axe will hold up just fine.
