What did you rehang today?

That is quite a shoulder (hip maybe?) on that axe!

I'm not up on Brades axes but that looks a "bit" like a Jersey and Hudson Bay were left next to each other unsupervised.

Haha I do keep contemplating whether I should cut the shoulder down, it hasn't bothered me so never done it. I may even re hand it now I know a bit more about what I'm doing. Where do people get their handles from? I'd love to make my own but hickory or a similar wood is hard to come by

Gorgeous job on those! The gentle swale to the otherwise straight handles is a very nice touch. You wouldn't have some Shaker blood in you (they were renowned for furniture etc design minimalism and simplicity)?

Wow! Those two axes are fantastic! Any more information? Length, weight?

The one is a true temper Kelley perfect(a newer one I think)not sure of the weight the other is a 3# plumb. They both have 28" miners axe hafts. I like straight handles, but I prefer the slight curve that these have. The plumb is my second favorite pattern. I'm a sucker for connies, so that is my favorite. I have a couple nice Connecticut heads that I will be hanging on similar hafts in the near future

Ps. If anyone is interested in the handles, I got them from house handles. I just modified them a bit and put an axe head on them

I love shaker style furniture, I prefer it to anything ornate. Thanks for the compliment

The True Temper half hatchet, Warwood 2lb cross peen and Snow & Nealley 3lb Jersey are all refinished/tightened handles. (tightened, sanded and linseed oiled)
The very nice Fulton head I bought today for $5, cleaned up and hung on a new House Handle 30" handle. Sanded and oiled with a walnut wedge. I am happy with it.

Do you have more picks of the handle?

Not a whole lot, the section of woodpile scrap it was made from wasn't necessarily the best. I'm actually probably going to make or reshape a new one for this axe at some point. The head also needs some more reprofiling work after using it a little.

I can try to take a better picture if you're interested.

A nice plumb Connecticut on another shaker curved 28" miners haft. I didn't have enough haft to leave much above the eye, and it isn't my best wedge job, but I'm happy. Another one for the keeper/user pile. Up next is 5# plumb kentucky(i think it's a Kentucky) on a 36" shaker miners haft

First one with lugs

Just more fun. Add some eye ridges and it's a party.

Have you had a chance to use one of the 28" handles yet? If they swing as good as they look I am inspired to set a similar one up.

Oh, I've seen "Shaker style" used a couple of times in recent posts - is that regular coinage or what yours got dubbed here?

Regardless, terrific looking tools Ultrahesh. Handles, heads, hangs and all.

A Swedish Army surplus axe rehung using a Beaver Tooth Co. 19" hickory handle with walnut cross wedge. Head has been re-profiled and satin polished...
