What do Real Military Men/Women Carry

Guys I was with in 99 showed me my 1st Strider and I didn't fall in love right away but they are some damn hard knives! Just like Mick stated" Hardcore Knives for HardCore Individuals".

I carry my own knives I designed, Spyderco, Ek Knives ( No Longer do).
and now Strider! I use them all the time from Thailand to whereever they send me.

We do buy cheap knives but some of us by what we can afford and get. I educate my Devil Dogs on knives so they know what to get and use in the field.

Most of the Marines I know have Gerber, Spyderco, Strider, Al Mar.

Mick,... good meeting you guys at the NYCustom knife show!

CBT engrs , i.e. Leatherman for sure, issued mine probe, M16 bayonet, sometimes a Khukuris for clearing bushes and fortification.
Met a Dive unit Lt. once, he carried a rusted Kabar, I ask him why not stainless, he replied, rusted blade makes a kill more deadly?
I do have a first generation Strider BT, great knife, however, too heavy for EOD use. My constant companian is a Kershaw G10. We do like the Ontario spec plus Navy knife because of very little magnatic signature. Always have one around even today. Good value and handy.
I do like the new Strider, however, it too expensive for me and my buddies. I would like to see a knife maker consider making a EOD-engineer knife as I don't see any maker with EOD knife, only leatherman and SOGs have tools?
Right now, (reserve) if were to be deployed? i think I'll get a Livesay AA.

An APO or AFO address would confirm that. However, we also use our home addresses, just like you.

that's just what i was thinking of
what if someone who was qualified for the discount ordered the knife without informing the vendor he was, and the vendor didn't find out and charged him full retail? that would be because it's not common knowledge and not found on the website?

small oversight there, eh?

Just send the vender a copy of your Mil/LEO ID. No worries mate.
Gall`s wanted my ID`s superimposed on a letter head, but this is unusual.
I just scanned it and e-mailed it. If it gets any more complex, I`ll
use another vender.

DEA, good point. I've always made it a habit to ask if vendors offer a military discount, and have gotten it more often than not. Even eyeglass and electric shaver stores at local malls have offered it before.

What does the Salvation Army Special Forces carry? How about their female personel. Sounds like some people have the hardware but need software. Owning a piano does not make you a musician. Oh, yeah one more thing STRIDERS ROCK.

I had a strrider fixed blade in 99 which I won here from a strider contest to name a knife.

They didn't chose my name, chosing the UD (Ugly Date) instead, but I entered over 100 names trying to win, so I got a knife.

I think it was the AD or something, about 3.25 inches of cord wrapped thick steel. I don't know about how well it would have been in knife fighting, but I doubt if that knife would have broken if i hit it with a 12 guage while locked in a vice.

I can definatly see how they are useful for military people who cannot have a tool fail on them.

Wish I still had it, but car needed repairs, and it was either sell the strider or walk.

Congrats upon your law grad. You will learn not to flaunt it. Talk to our female friend.
I asked about you.

I am not up on what the military carries today. I know most of us in SF in the 60's bought Randals, and prized the SF demo knife. I bought a Puma Stag handle hunter's knife prior to VN and the stag handle did not hold up well in the climate. We were issued the SOG knife with a rubber handle along with a Begium Browning 9mm. I think it was a Randell, but; could be wrong. I paid about 1/10 of my base pay for the Puma. Wish I still had it, but; I gave to a SOG legendary NCO, along with a stilletto to keep in his boot when I left the HF company. I am not really into large knifes now, as I like to buy any Case for collecting. I am too damn old to get into any knife fight. I know this is off topic, but; my Omega speedmaster watch fogged up within 8 months in VN. I paid about $85 for the damn watch at the RCAF exchange in Baden Baden in late 67. I think the Puma was about $60? I cannot recall what the stilletto cost. I keep the Case limited edition knives in their cases/original tins, etc.

Sorry I did not include MOS for you. Try 31542. SF Groups were 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 10th. Please understand I could not tell you what an A team uses for a radio today. I have no damn idea. I have no idea what they are doing either. I am too old for active duty. CRS

Wow... great thread starter...

I'm a fresh National Guardsmen, but, I carry the CRKT M16-13M, soon to be expanded to Benchmade 9130 Auto-Stryker Taurus, Benchmade Presidio Osbourne, and hopefully a Spyderco Civilian.
I'm also going to get some throwing knives to start learning how to throw.

Thanks for a good thread,

Knives I carried while a Medic with 2/187 Inf, 101stAbn:

Fixed Blades:
Al Mar Warrior - too big, got stuck in a ruck 15 minutes after heading out.
Ontario Spec Ops Airforce/Survival - 5" blade was not a hassle and it sharpened easy plus it was cheap and easy to replace.

Folders/Multi Tools:
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Remote Release
Benchmade Emerson CQC-7
Benchmade AFCK
Emerson CQC-7
Victorinox Hunter
Gerber Multi Tool
SOG Multi Tool

Most of the time I went with my Spyderco Remote Release on my Right LBV strap, Emerson CQC-7 in my Right front pocket, and the SOG Multi Tool on my belt.

One of my best friends recently left the army, he was a private in the Cheshire Regiment. When he was on active service in Iraq he carried the standard issue bayonet, a Leatherman (I think PS but not sure) and a Gerber Guardian Backup. The Leatherman proved to be very useful, the bayonet came in handy for prying open crates etc, and I don't think he used the Gerber at all. It looks cool though!

Cool old thread that still seems valid
when I was in carried
really small cheap Buck folder 1 1/2 long or so in top BDU pocket
SOG multi tool thing in LBV, I picked the SOG because everyone else had a leatherman,
Buck 110 (I think) with green plastic handles in my LBV also. I had that one since they first came out when I was in the Boy Scouts, it was stolen in Ranger School, and I found another one at a FT Benning boat ramp.
Last I had a fixed blade knife called a Wraith, I used it for all my field stuff, never carried a bayonet, they don’t work on a suppressed CAR.

I'm Army ROTC, enlisting as an 11B in the MN National Guard, and when we're out in the field, the leathermans come out in force, but I rarely see much else. We don't really need much else. I'm an anomaly in that I have a normal folder all the time, but it is nice to have people take for granted that I have it, even if they don't. Yet another reason I love the Army. :D

Wow, this is one old thread!

After re-reading the thread, I did notice that Strider never answered my question from my last post.
So, I'll re-post it.
Maybe we will get a real answer this time from Mr. Strider.

Previously from myself:
Mr. Strider, I have to disagree with you. If military personnel get a discount, then you should say so on your website or in your printed ads.
I have two brothers who just retired from the USMC and I spent six years in the US Army, and all three of us are big time knife lovers, and we did'nt know you offered any discount.
Had we known, you might have sold three more knives sooner.

What kind of discount is offered?

Thanks,
Allen.

A.G. Russell asks to see a copy of your ID card. I got a TI pen knife from them at Blade and just showed it in person.

Or that it is sent to a military address, anywhere.

(talking about our 25% discount for the troops)

Are there any knife fighting trained military personnel here? Just wanting to know. Do you have to train in hand to hand combat on your own time or what?
thanks
