Booked a cabin near Lesterville, Mo, in the heart of the Mark Twain National Forest in a few weeks. Hoping to get a little hiking time in, and test out the MAP 3500. Should be a good time.

Looking forward to the review, dubz. Actually what I would really like to see is a review (and pics) of ur BCUSA tarp. Thats the next item on my list.(and an Emberlit stove)

Don't know when I'll get a chance to use the tarp. Thought about just setting it up in a few configurations in the back yard. AT least check it out. Here's a nice thread on it: http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/showthread.php/13135-BCUSA-Tarp-Shelter-Thread

There's many photos in it.

Yesterday I drank a bottle of vodka. It wasn't a FULL bottle, however it was still somewhere between 3/4s of a bottle and a full bottle. It was also only a 750ml bottle. It was really good stuff! Small batch unnamed unlabeled vodka sent from Russia.

Limoncello should be done in 20-30 days, I'll be PMing you for your address (I decimated the box you sent the Cryo in as I opened it in a frenzy while driving to work so I was unable to salvage your addy from it).

Awesome! I have an idea for a Parmesan crusted lemon chicken breast!

I figured out how to sharpen my Izula, 11x2, 14x2...

Nice job, Cbear!
Being able to get hair popping edges is very satisfying and mildly addictive.

Now try it free hand.:p

Nice.
That kind of edge is not easy to achieve..
5 minutes on the KME with the second to last stone, then 5 minutes on the last stone. Then stropped till I can see myself.

Oh, and nicked the hell out of my wrist when attempting to shave it.

Just out of curiosity, do you know the grit ratings for the stones?

What sort of strop did you use?

I picked up some diamond spray last week, and it is pretty awesome stuff.

I use the KME system. MooseMan recommended it. Figured I'd give it a go since I can't free hand. I was using the medium aluminum oxide and the hard arkansas fine.

The strop I got from Flexxx. It's a good strop, he even loaded it for me with black and green compound for like $15 shipped.

People seem to have pretty good luck with the KME.
So far, I've managed to avoid guided sharpeners. Although I did try out the paper wheels. Went back to my bench stones.

I am glad you found something that works for you.

If your hand is steady enough to strop, you may also be able to convex your blades with sandpaper if you ever have the urge.

I convexed my 14 w/ sandpaper. I actually did a quick touch up on my Mini Grip today w/ some sandpaper and a quick stropping on my jeans too. I was in a hurry and the edge was 'not cutting it'. Took 5 minutes to get it slicing paper easily again, not shaving sharp but it was good enough to head out the door with.

Sandpaper is definitely a great way to get a quick edge. Before I got my stones, that is all I used.
Something I've noticed with convex edges is that even though they may not "feel" as sharp as comparable V-edges, often times they cut better and are usually much more durable.
