  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What is the largest knife you actually use?

Most used is between 2-3.5 inches. Most used is ESEE Izula & Candiru, Spyderco Chaparral & Dragonfly. Honorable mentions to my SAKs and Buck Stockman

These two are my gardening knives with the Skrama being used more than the Busse. Weeds, ivy on walls, soil and fertilizer bags etc. Very useful items.

Terävä Skrama 200 is the biggest knife I own and use. EDC is whatever folder I happen to feel like that day, with several dozen in the collection it depends upon my mood.

I've been checking out those skrama knives. Might grab one of the larger ones.
It's worth checking out. It looks so simple and unimaginative, but the thing is surprisingly versatile. I haven't field dressed anything with it, so I can't speak to how it works with something like that, but for camp chores and most bushcraft needs it does a really good job.

Thanks!
So .... the big question is 200 or 240???? 😁

Skrama 240 for camp, clearing brush, and prepping a fire;

Roselli large leuku for similar, but less intense work;

Several cavalry swords I work out and practice mounted cutting with;

Buck 110 and Opinel N°10 as large folders for work around the farm;

Recently started all-round using the Peltonen M95 sissipuukko.

I'll see about getting some pics up.

A Buck 110 is about the biggest folder that I carry. I don't carry a fixed blade much, but depending on the job, I have several to pick from when I need one.

Mounted cutting with the calvarly swords would make for a legendary pic!

Leuku gang.
My favorite for brush clearing. Not too bad for cutting fat steaks too!

Used this a lot when we lived in the interior. It’s perfect for breaking down split rounds into kindling, cutting cords and nets and for breaking down cardboard.
These days I carry a Bradford Guardian 5 for most bigger cutting, carving and slicing jobs.

Larger fixed blade? Condor Discord machete. Chops hard wood almost like an axe.

Larger folding knife? Extrema Ratio RAO.

Mostly use my personal knives to open boxes. Food prep was excluded by OP so I’ll leave that out.

My Recon Tanto and SRK are very happy box cutters. Any blade larger than 6-7” gets too unwieldy for me. 4-5” is more practical for everyday utility knives.

2-3” is a very nice discreet pocket carry size.

Reread the op.

He mentioned field dressing, general camp use, including food prep.

He excluded kitchen knives, specifically.

Not a contradiction on his part, just very specific rules.

Apparently, he has an older sister who beat him up, er trained him a lot.

Other than fixed blade hunters ; which seldom get used any longer. ( and were not that big anyway) The largest knife that gets regular use in my A. Wright Senator. My6 penchant is for smaller folders but this one is just too good.
