what is the sharpest FACTORY edge you've seen?

Both SG-2 Kershaw's are the best I have gotten. Spyderco Calypso Jr. ZDP-189 is a very close 2nd. Kershaw's Ener-g 13C26 are 3rd with a very nice thin edge.

Cold Steel's X2 Voyager.
Everyone I know that has one usually gets cut in less than 5 minutes of handling it.
Lots of razor sharp factory edges, but this is the one I remember the most.

When I got my X2 years ago I went out on the front lawn and started effortlessly grazing the heads off of dandelions. I took a swing at the stem of one that had a bumblebee on top of it and accidentally went too high--took the top half of the bee's head clean off! No joke--the thing kept spazzing around for a while, too. For the record, bee brains are a kind of muddy purplish brown. :barf: Felt bad about the poor thing, but it was an honest mistake. :o

I had an old school Microtech Socom DA that was sharp enough to perform a total hip replacement!!

super, scary sharp

We had a few manual Socoms at the shop I work at in the summers up this way--terrifyingly sharp, they were!

In terms of consistencey, probably my older Strider fixed blades. Haven't bought one in about 7 years, though. I bought a Sebenza direct from the shop in 2007 that was pretty sharp. A Busse that I had Krein pimp out arraived good and sharp, but that's a little different.

I really don't care too much about factory sharpness, as I'm planning to redo the users anyway. It's not just 'how much' sharpness that matters, there's also 'what kind' of sharpness to consider.

Oh yeah... just saw FTB's post. MT's definitely came sharp from the factory back in the day. I remember one SOCOM DA in particular. They could put a good edge on the 154.

Probably my Case Swayback in CV. Case is putting out some seriously sharp edges these days.

Kershaw and Microtech, especially the '90s Vero Beach MTs, are usually right up there.

My Spyderco Mule Team in 52100 was ridiculously sharp out of the box. It could whittle hair. Besides that, I think my Bark River Bravo 1 and my RAT Izula were the sharpest overall.

My sharpest folder was my Spyderco Paramilitary. My sharpest large fixed blade was my Condor Hog-Sticker machete. That thing is pure evil. It's not only the sharpest big knife I've ever seen, it's also the pointiest.

In my recent purchases, hands down have to put my vote in for the Kershaw JYD II comp blade. I was really surprised how sharp it was when I got it.

Second would be the Ontario RAT 1. Wicked sharp, perfect grinds, right out of the box.

all my spyderco knives came hair-shaping sharp right out of the box...ive had a few others that came that sharp from different brands but, except for spyderco, Ive never been able to say that every single knife Ive owned from a specific brand had a shaving sharp factory edge

For me it was an 11 doller knife.. the Gerber EAB. i guess the next sharpest knife out of the box for me was a spyderco tenacious

Sharpest I have seen out of the box was a Browning Mastersmith John Fitch model, it impressed several coworkers that I showed it to when I would push slice through the entire newspaper, not just one sheet.

Someone mentioned that they thought these were made by A G Russell's factory, if so they did a mighty fine job.

My Manix 2 and Native 4 were fairly sharp out of the box but no where near as sharp as my Rat Izula and Bravo 1. Like razor blades right out of the box.
It seemed if you so much as touched the Rat you had a cut.
