What is with A.G. Russel?

I hope that this thread is allowed to run it's course, but I also hope that Couger or Blues will remove those U-Tube entries. They are not to the point and they are not suitable for your daughters or my grand-daughters.

Again, I want to thank Dave and Thumbs and Neo for giving my customers the chance to tell me what they think of me and the A. G. Russell operation and the staff that makes it work.

I'll remove them sorry i didnt know children were looking in the forum.

But I do think that they are to the point that so many are screaming about Wal Mart.

Because they cannot afford them does not mean they don't love them. Thanks for helping.

Please take the Wal-mart thing to another thread. It is fair to compare me to Wal-Mart or Wal-Mart to me, but, I think anything further belongs elsewhere, and I say this to my friends as well as those who do not feel so friendly.

Walmart is not the topic here No Thumbs.

I believe it was the Trollish nature & lack of respect in your original post.

Sorry, Phil. I have to disagree, he and Dave had some real points and led to this great thread. I will want Polly to read it the next time she thinks a customer is taking advantage of us when returning a knife after 10-15 years.

Bring back Woolworth's!!!

They had soda fountains and if you ordered a banana split you popped a balloon to see how much you had to pay.

Walmart's has Blimpies...........................Ugh

Hey ours has a McDonalds! Progress!

Ive checked WalMarts knife selection. Nothing I would really want and I dont even think A.G. and WalMart carries the same knives. Hell, even the Sportsmans Warehouse carries a decent knife selection. Mostly low end models from the known brands.

That's the thing, if some people would open their eyes and see, they would realize that AG Russell Knives sells many unique knives that are exclusive to them. Special handle materials, steels, etc. If you want the finest knives that is where to look first. Remember, money isn't everything, or should I say price isn't all that matters. Just spend 1/2 hour looking on the AG Russsell website and I am sure you will see a knife that catches your fancy. It will almost assuredly be something unique to their store. When you start receiving the catalogues you will be very happy, and excited to get the mail, thinking there might be a new catalogue waiting for you.

Yes, many unique to A.G. Russell pieces for sure.

I was looking for a Kershaw Tyrade. A.G. has them for $275. Cheaper Than Dirt (which I have had great luck with) has them for $179.00. Other shops that I have gotten knives from have them from $199 to $224. Is the one on A.G.'s site a special edition?

Folks, let's quit feeding the trolls. Just let this thread die. AKA Dave is an admitted troll. He's posting the same garbage over and over, in various ways, just to get a rise out of people here, and he's done so at a sound business man's and business' expense.

If the moderators will not take out the garbage, let's just do it the old fashion way. Do not reply to his posts. It is what he wants you to do. Let us non moderators take the trash out.

Remember that name akaDave. Know that he as well as severed are trolls. Do not help them with their questions in the future, ever. They are takers, not givers and will not give and take like regular decent people.

All decent people, those who love AG Russell, the man, and the business, quit feeding the trolls.

If you post, just post regarding what other folks say, not the trolls.

Thanks!

Several years ago I bought a one handed knife from them and it was dull. nothing I could do could make this knife sharp, including using a crock stick set I'd also bought from them.
I sent it in for sharpening and they used a grinding wheel and while they did get it sharp, they ground down part of the thumb stud.
Traded it off and resolved never to buy from them again.

Ah, you are correct. But what I wrote was,"sells many unique knives", that is the phrase I used. Not all the knives are unique or special edition. He is not a discount, low end, low quality retailer. If you were to buy a special edition Corvette or Porche, or Cadillac, you would not expect to get it for a low price. AG Russell has been in business for over 40 years, and the reason is people like doing business with a good man. There are people who pay full retail for a knife, like I did in Las Vegas at Bonds House of Cutlery. I knew I could get a better price if I waited until I went back home. I did not care. I could have lost, and have lost, the amount of money I could have saved if i'd have waited, in one roll of the dice, or a couple of hands of blackjack. It is small potatoes in the gist of things. Concentrate on the positive things that AG Russell has to offer. His exclusive knives are the way to go. Look at the AG Russell Chute Knife for example. It is a one of a kind knife that exibits beautiful workmanship. There are many more examples, but the important thing is think posistive things. Negative thought generate negative energy around you. Bad Karma. Get yourself a nice custom knife and make yourself happy.

I mostly shop AGR for specials that I can't find elsewhere (I'm real cheap). Although I am cheap I still find irresistible knives there quite frequently. When you shop at AGR you will find many knives that reflect AG's sophisticated taste. He is the grand old master of the industry.

Some of his added expense is because he is not simply an internet dealer. He continues to run a mail order catalog business in the caliber of L.L. Bean. This adds some overhead that is not shared by straight internet businesses. He also carries a lot of expensive inventory that is not typical of an ebusiness model. When you shop at AGR you may be paying for features of his business model that are extraneous to your needs. You will also find some unusual knives that you will only find in expensive knife boutiques. AGR offers good value, but that may depend a lot on your taste and needs. I'm glad he's around.

Daave,

Maybe The folks at CTD, a long established outfit, are buying enough of those to get a better price than we do. The MSRP for that knife is $350. The are the same knife. If you want it I suggest that you buy it from them. We will probably drop the price when we take it from the catalog.

For years we have tried to support the makers/importers by staying as close to their published prices as we could, in todays market that is no longer possible. Not much point in trying to explain to you the cost of maintaining a quality catalog for those who are not into computer, enough to say, it does affect our pricing.

By all means beat on me as much as you like, I do not have enough money to pay for the grand reaction you are getting from my customers. As I have said before, I thank you and the others who have made this thread possible.

Mr. Russell, It just dosen't make any sense to me why people would write things like this. I was always tought that if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything at all. You know you have many friends and good custumers here. I have tried to be nice and explain to these guys that they should reconsider their ideas, and I hope they take heed. We will always stand with you, that is for sure! Rick:thumbup:

Godot, I am sorry for what happened to you, I hope that at some point you will relent and give us another chance. all the best, A. G.

I am not trying to be sarcastic when I thank Dave and Thumbs for the un-intended conseqenses (?) of their posts. The outpouring of good will resulting has not only been wonderfully warm and fuzzy (at my age you take all the warm and fuzzy you can get), it will make it possible for my staff to see what our customers really think of us.

They could not have done me nearly as much good if they had tried.

Cheaper than dirt does not even have the Kershaw Tyrade listed at all now.
They are also the ones that dramatically raised their prices recently on high capacity firearm magazines and were inflating the retail price, to seem to offer some discount and
capitalize on the demand. (due to the recent turn of political events)
I've always thought they were one of those stores that bought up goods that didn't sale, or from closeouts and sold them cheaply. They used to charge shipping by the amount spent and it was very expensive. (I think they no longer do that)

When I was pretty new to knives I bought two low-mid end knives from AG Russell. They weren't really to my liking and I asked him if I could exchange them for one higher end knife. The cost of the two was about 11 dollars more than the new one. I told him I didn't want a credit for the difference since I felt he was going out of his way to accommodate me and this seemed like a reasonable tip. But sure enough when I looked at my credit card statement awhile later there was a credit for the difference.

Great service from a great company

Jobbers. Of course they'd be able to offer a great deal for something they paid pennies on the dollar for, but they can't keep it in stock because Tyrade dealers aren't going out of business every day. :)
