What is your #1 folder around $1k

I would definitely go Thorburn again, or possibly a Holt.

I only buy intended users and would never spend 1k on something that would get beat up . . . but that Neo does look mighty good!!

I spent over $3K on folders in two years to find out what I like and this is it next to the Shiro. All the others are going on the block to recoup investment.

Most I've paid cash for any knife is $400; $600 in trade. Still would rather pay $1k on a gun than for any knife.

Looking for some inspiration..

Custom or production.. don't want to limit it to any specific type of folder.. just curious what you would buy if had a $800-$1500 budget and you only wanted to buy one knife. Please post a picture and maker/manufacturer.

Definitely a Rockstead. Either a Shu:

Or a Higo 2:

Hello, my first post here...looking forward to settling in.
I sold a Monkey edge shiro years ago and wish I wouldn't have. It would take every bit of $1000 now to get her back if I could even find one again.

I like the look of the higo 2... I think that might be the one...

This. You don't lose a lot trying these out and reselling... I've probably made more than I've lost since the expensive ones I do buy tend to be very limited release or high demand.

To each their own right? I have guns too, but I can easily carry my knife every day. I don't CCW often depending on conditions (Florida is hot so t-shirt and boardshorts are normal attire). I see it as an accessory/tool like a nice watch. I'm a big fan of getting what you want regardless of cost if you love it and have the means. Life is too short to settle.

I have a few knives in that price range with my favorites being the Holt Specter and the Eutsler DUK. I'm kind of in the boat of not buying custom knives anymore. I look more in the $200-500 range these days. I've gotten to where I'd rather spend that kind of money on other things, but if I were going to buy something in your price range, it'd be an Efros Hustle.

The only thing I have right around $1K is a Les George Wilson Combat Damascus Persian.

Everything else is less or more (2 knives).

I think I would buy a Buck 110, and a pizza.
Maybe a well used drivable car or motorcycle (or maybe a scooter or moped?) too.

I would have to join the Shamwari or Charl Pienaar club. I would not spend that much but if I did it would be one of those.

Lol I think this would be my response too if I read this during or just after college. Again, everyone has a different deal. I am at a place in my life where if I or the lady want something and it's not over 5k or so.. I buy it without a ton of thought. No kids helps a lot!

This is why I made this thread because I did want a shamwari a few years ago and at the time didn't want to drop the coin. This and the higo 2 are now at the top of the list. Thank you.

It's been my personal experience that after about the $240 - $450 range you're paying for a name.
Some exceptions would be the Shirogorov's and a few Rocksteads. Higher end midtechs are where I have seen the best made knives for the money. I've been nothing but displeased with custom knives approaching the $1500 - $2000 mark, I've never spent more than that and if I did it better come with counseling or a "happy ending"....
:D
Final answer: Shirogorov for $1000 Alex.
