What is your #1 folder around $1k

#1 around a thousand would be any one of several Shiro's, though my purchase prices of those topped out at $850 for my 111CF and Turtle, each in M390 and brand new from Russia. The rest came off the secondary market in the range of 450-750. Most of my buying the last few years has been in the 300-500 range for mid-techs such as CRK, RHK, Cheburkov, and others--again, primarily off the secondary market. I would like to try a Thorburn at some point. @marchone 's Anso Neo is wicked interesting, especially on the recommendation of a known Shiro aficionado, though its price is close to double what I paid for my 111 or F95T. I'm also very fond of my Olamic 247 and have thought about a custom Rainmaker build, as @Quiet mentioned earlier, if not a full-size Wayfarer.

I just crossed the 4-figure threshold for the first time yesterday, pulling the PP trigger on a Shiro grail that a friend here on BF has been holding for me, priced not much higher that new US retail for an F95R, and am looking forward to receiving my CF Russian Dr Death this week. My thing with higher end knives at this point is that I'll not be buying them as collectibles or drawer queens, but to carry and use. Several of my Shiros and mid-techs are work users and most all the rest get carried if not used somewhat more lightly. I've only got a couple queens left. I'll fondle the RDD for a while, but hope to like it enough to carry and use it.

Yes I think if the rockstead I just ordered doesn't blow me away I may look at a neo or possibly even another shirogorov. I've owned a few over the years and none of really blown me away for the $. This collab lottery though may do it if I get selected. I'll enter the lottery either way and keep whichever I like most if I happen to win

Where are you guys finding Anso Neo's for $1k?

everywhere I look they're $1500+

Congratulations! I think many of us aspire to own a Dr. Death! I think the only way Im ever going to own one is if I fake my own..(death/insurance money):)
What a beauty!

I just sold a mint gen 2 example earlier this week for 995.00 (only lasted about 30 min) on the exchange. (Very snappy flipper)

I think the original orders started around 1000-1200 straight from anso. May just have to wait for the next round.
They currently start @ around 1350.00 from the maker last time I checked.

There are some incredible knives in this thread! I've never been able to bring myself to spend more than about half that budget, but different strokes and all. I tend to switch up what I'm carrying way too often, plus I prefer 3.5-3.75" blades, but am limited to 3" at work. I guess that means that two knives is the order of the day, so I'll take two left-handed Chris Reeves, one large, one small. Model TBD, but probably the Inkosi.

Real world, I'm getting a Wilson Combat Beretta Centurion Tactical and sticking with my current knife collection though!

Got it today. Beautiful details, superbly executed, and incredibly light for a knife its size. Despite its 3.875" Vanax 37 blade, the RDD carries and feels like the mid-size Shiro many have longed for--more knife than a NeOn, but with less mass than the F series knives (whose size is still much appreciated here). This'll be a great light carry.

Just got this from the FedEx man today. Definitely a beautiful work of art. Haven't yet decided if I love it. Not because it's not perfectly made.. but the beautiful carbon fiber sides (with wood grain-like patterns) also make the handle wider than I'd prefer for pocket comfort.

I figured this thread would be 95% kvetching about $1,000 knives, and I love that it's the exact opposite! Thank you all for sharing your drool-worthy photos and recommendations, it's a fun read. :D

Sounds like a good excuse to have some custom scales made. Maybe a little slimmer than the stock ones.

Looking for some inspiration..

Custom or production.. don't want to limit it to any specific type of folder.. just curious what you would buy if had a $800-$1500 budget and you only wanted to buy one knife. Please post a picture and maker/manufacturer.
Got my first Thornburn and it's pretty fantastic. Action is incredible.

Congrats on the Thorburn. I love mine too.
The one tweak I'm tempted to do, but haven't had the nerve is putting on a small mirror final bevel. It came sharp but not super sharp. I have a wicked edge system and use it on all my home build projects, but half the time a quick slip leaves a scratch on the main bevel and I'd hate to do that here.
