I work at a research laboratory. Knives are okay, but no firearms. One of my co-workers carries a USMC KaBar and he calls it his "soil knife". Haha
The BladeForums.com 2024 Traditional Knife is available! Price is $250 ea (shipped within CONUS).

Sounds similar to my situation, I actually quit using the "safety" knives they issued to us since I kept cutting myself with it. Actually I am allowed to carry whatever I want, considering the amount of work I do in relation to everyone else in the joint. Although the other week I was accused of carrying a deadly weapon to work by a cross department manager. (not my boss but on the same level as my boss) I was actually in the lunch room eating with a knife open on the table. I gave him a good solid WTF look and said "because I can't cut a steak with a spoon."I think we actually have a no personal knives policy at work. Started when one guy went to stap some cardboard and his Gerber closed on his fingers... That said the work knives are dull as he'll, and we work with machinery that could pop your hand off at the wrist with the push of a button, so they don't mind if smart people carry knives. I carried a Millie every day for months.
So long as they get blown up good and proper and nobody ends up getting cutI work from home (laptop at the kitchen table), so anything goes. Went to court yesterday and had to leave everything in the car (metal detector).
I've told this before, but my bro-in-law is a chemical engineer at Dow. He can't carry a knife, but he does have access to valves that would blow up half of Michigan.
I do electrical and mechanical service work. Try stripping the insulation off of copper cable rated to 100 amps and 600 volts with a peanutI use a mora HQ craftline jobby (the sheepsfoot one) frequently or a spyderco tenacious. I rarely carry anything big or expensive to work with me, as I just don't have the need to do so.
