What knife can you get away with carring at work?

Own my own company - Lawn Care. Carry anything I want. Usually a Salt 1 SE and Alox Farmer.

I've got an electrician who works for me that strips your #3 THHN with a Case Peanut. In fact, he uses it to strip the much bigger stuff too. I saw him the other day stripping some 500 MCM with it. I asked him if he wanted to use my Bravo Necker or ESEE Izula II and he just shakes his head.:D

That is hilarious. The blade is plenty long enough (i've done it) I just find the handle to be on the small side to get sufficient leverage for all of my cutting tasks, hence the small FB. I've also had a peanut close up on me and knick the tip of one of my fingers, as I was being stupid with it. I like the FB because it'll never close on my fingers. That 1/2 inch cable is good fun to work with, I don't often do work with it but putting electrical cable through a pipe bender to shape it always makes me chuckle.

At most times I have a locking folder in one pocket and a slip joint in the other. I may also have an auto clipped to my climbing harness if it's going to be cold (I can open and close it easliy with gloves on), and in my bag on the ground you may find a Buck 119, an Esee 4, or even my Cold Steel Magnum Kukri. I work mostly in the woods and for the most part away from civilization, so I might have to clear some brush, or even (sigh) go fishing/hiking after the work day is done, so I carry what ever I feel like. Not a bad gig, lol.

I carried a crappy machete today (Company issue.) Yet I'm not supposed to carry anything over 3". What a joke. Lol.

I havent gotten any crap for my folders and im sure a small fixed blade would be fine as long as its in my pocket and not on my belt but I spend most of my day opening and breaking down boxes so theres no real need for a FB

No fixed blades, no guns, no folders over 3" blade, per company policy.

It's been my CRKT M1 for almost four years. I rotated out for my small M16, my Mini-Griptilian, and a Kershaw Needs Work (bent the tip), but the M1 eventually finds it's way back. Going to try my new folding Razel to see how it does.

They prefer if we use utility knives that are set up to pull the blade back unless you hold it out. I usually let people try to saw through something with them, then demonstrate the value of a good knife. Usually keep it stowed when the office people come up to the kilns, though...

Like a few others have stated, some of us have a carte blanche to carry whatever we so desire.

eh, to be on the safe side i'm picking up another tti tomorrow. way more sheeple friendly than a regular folder. like the one hand open and close too. best to stay out of trouble

No "no knife" policy at my work. Hell, I witnessed our employee safety mgr use a Buck lock back a couple weeks ago, so I don't think knives are at issue. That said, I carry a Buck 307, which sees seldom use at work, 2 or 3 times a week to cut down a box, or carve out a box-top for education lol.

I work in a paper mill and they actually will give you a fixed blade paper knife and sheath if want it. Lots of people wear them on their belts every shift they work.

We have a no weapons policy, but "pocket knives" do not count as a weapon. So I can pretty much carry whatever folder I want. Most of time I carry a slip joint in the office, lately its been a Spyderco UKPK, but it varies.

I hear you brother. At over a pound a foot, 500 MCM makes for a good billy club too.:D Yeah, taking a conduit bender to wire always gets some looks from other trades.

I'm with you on the Fixed Blade. I've had too many cheap folders close on me trying to get leverage for a tough strip. Plus I like a substantial handle in my hand for when I'm stripping a lot of wires. I find that the ESEE Izula II has a great handle for this, but the Bark River Bravo Necker's convex edge makes that wire insulation fly.

Truth be told, I don't know what I can/cannot carry. I use my knife (knives) simply to open boxes, packages and cut anything that needs to be cut. My rotation consists of a CRKT Ryan Plan B, Izula and just added a Strider SA. They are all small blades, but I don't flash them around. No one has ever said anything. Yet...

I subscribe to a Don't Ask...Don't Tell knife policy. Be smart with your blades and no one will ever say a word.

If you literally use your knife dozens of times a day like i do most days, people are going to see you and eventually say something. (Good or bad) There is only two bosses over me, and they both like my 610 Rukus.

Well, we aren't issued anything so technically we probably aren't supposed to but I suppose until someone hurts themselves or does something stupid it won't be an issue. Lots of the guys carry one of the auto-Benchmades. I've carried a Police 3, and before that a Endura 3. These days I might have a Rough Rider sodbuster in my cargo pockets because its thinner than the Case and the lock makes it annoying for me to EDC the RR where I would expect to use it all the time. I also EDC a Pioneer Pruner because the little hawkbill is very useful for a particular task at work.

I'm sure I'd get told to take off a fixed blade but I'd probably get away with a Buck 110 in a snapped closed pouch. We've got one dim bulb that was talking about carrying a TDI?, one of the Kabar small bent fixed blade things.
