What knife can you not bring yourself to like?

Whats not to like about AUS8? Most EDC users won't be able to tell the difference, what a great value steel if there ever was one..just like Bucks 420hc:thumbup:

any of these massive tactical folders and military knives. they just don't have any appeal to me and don't fit my use cases for knives. and i am no longer that age where i absolutely had have a rambo knife.

Sebenza, Umnumzaan, etc. Are they worth north of $400? Let me break it down; 2 slabs of Ti, 2 washers, an avg/regular blade steel, few screws, and a standoff. I really don't see the intrinsic quality. Bought both, then realized what an idiot I was for doing it. Beat them up and sold them off. Bought a sage 2 and never looked into getting any other Reeve knife.

Traditional folders. I've got an old 2-bladed Case knife, an old Imperial peanut and a cheapo Winchester stockman. I've tried carrying them, but have never really warmed up to any of them. I like the idea of them, but when I've tried carrying/using them, I mostly find myself ignoring them in favor of just about any other knife. Strangely, though, I really like SAKs.

Thank you for sharing brother. I'm glad to see the Haters haven't silenced your opinion.

Right? Heck, the Chinese can fake it for 40 USD so why the high price?

You need to factor in made in USA and the tolerances. I would guess that the knives cost around 190- 220 USD to produce. Why do they sell for 400? Because they can.

A China Spyderco costs around 15-35 USD to manufacture. (US made PM2 I would gess about 80-90)

I am pulling these figures out of my ___. But I work in military electronics and we machine our own Ti and Aluminium rugged, sealed cases and the cost of manufacturing between USA and China is about what I wrote above, percentage wise.

Can't bring myself to like Striders. The ergos are just way off and the blade to handle ratio doesn't work for me.

Cold Steel "tactical" folders and fixed blades. Most look like over priced mall ninja tacticlol knives made by M-Tech and/or Tac-Force.

Just an update, I still hate Direware...

I mean, come on! Who names their knife company so similar to Tupperware, or underware?

The majority of benchmades. I just don't like the style and design of 75% of the ones I've seen. I do really want the emissary and Adamas... Maybe a triage too, but other then that I'm just not a fan. I think some of them look and feel like knives that should be half the price they are. Just a vibe. Griptillian certainly didn't strike me as a $100+ knife. Obviously 154cm is great steel though. Like I mentioned though I really want an Emissary, loved the handle on those.

Spyderco PM2. I've really tried to like them, I've purchased 2 in the past, sold 1 and am trying to get rid of the other 1 right now. I just can't force myself to like it despite all of the accolades they get from everywhere.

I think the blade to handle ratio is horrible, it takes up too much pocket space when carried, and the fine tuning of the pivot and stop pin is a pita. On the flip side though, I think the Spyderco Southard is an almost perfect knife. That makes sense though since the Southard and the PM2 are almost complete opposites.

Spyderco for me too...

I like that they are always ready to try newest steels, but I don't like the hole, I'd much rather prefer a stud, I don't like the looks of them outside of a few random models, and I can't justify the price on 'em as I can always find something comparable by another maker, made in the same steel but without the hole, that I like the looks of blade and handle design way more and for way less the price.

I can understand about the looks, it's not for everyone. However, saying that you can find something in the same steel is false. Perhaps for some of the more common models, but I don't know of any companies that have used steels like CruWear, 440V, H1, or many others...

The things I'd do for more CruWear...:D

You're right, I should not have said "always" as it is certainly not with "every" steel, spyderco does seem to be the only company that you really can find almost any steel, including the above mentioned albeit all but spydie exclusives with some of the more exotics; (h1 I would totally buy for a boat knife if I didn't hate the look of the salt series Knives so much)

I should have said "often times with the more common steels"; vg10, s30v, s35v, elmax, mov's, even cts-xhp, etc. I can almost always find a comparable knife for a cheaper price that I like the design and style of better...

Examples; 3 spydies I came close to buying rather recently were a real basic tenacious for just over $40, (8cr13mov), just to own a spyderco and really try and like it, but i opted for a $35 thermite instead because of design, same steel and I love it. the Chicago, because it's 440c, but I couldn't bring myself to spend $45 on less then 2" of cutting edge when I can get twice that in the same steel from Boker+ or Kizlyar supreme for $50. And the Manix2 in translucent blue because while the design doesnt do much for me, I really like the look of the color, but for $75-80 I couldnt bring myself to do it when I can get a cs voyager in the same steel for <$50-70 depending on (bigger) size, and I like the cs design better.

Different stroke for diffetent folks I guess, I just don't get all the hooplah. Every one I've handled just hasn't overly impressed me any more then just another quality knife, no "wow" factor, certainly IMO not any "better" then any other decent knife worth paying more for, but that's just me... (I'm sure psychologically on some level it doesn't help that I also really don't like spiders ;) )

It was a very generalized statement though, likely anchored in my preconcieved negative bias towards the brand. Should have been more specific and less pre biased.
