What knife can you not bring yourself to like?

I'm gonna get some haters for this, but I have yet to see a Zero Tollerance that makes me want to grab my wallet and buy it, I just don't like them. I have to be fair and say I haven't held one yet, but it really doesn't matter how they feel if I don't like the way they look. Brad.

I'll buy that. I have no desire for a ZT, a Strider or a Sebenza. Oh there will be no shortage of folks who can jump up and down screaming that those are the finest pieces of cutlery ever offered to humanity, super steels, built like tanks, blah blah blah. And no shortage of those that will admonish me with a sentence that starts with "Well, until you've owned one..." Hell, I remember one time some doof claimed that the reason I didn't like a Sebenza is because I couldn't afford it.

No matter, because in my 15 years here on BFC, I have yet to even get a twinge of curiosity enough to make me pull my wallet out for one. I just can't bring myself to like them.

Benchmade - Lots of the newer stuff is just strangely designed, almost like thins were just rushed or created as an after thought. I do like some of their new stuff though.

/runs and ducks for cover.

Wait..... what? So lots of benchmade's new stuff you do not like, but you like some of the new stuff?

For me it was the ZT 801. Sweet F/F, smooth opening, good ergos, just sexy. It just rode all funky in the pocket. Too thick, the clip felt like it was not designed for it. I had to grip it a certain way to take it out of my pocket so it didn't tug my pants. The spine was curved so it took up more pocket space. It just killed the knife for me.

After you have gone thought a bunch of knives you know what you like, some things are just deal breakers. It's a shame because it was a very fine knife in all other aspects. The 0566 rode much better in the pocket. I might get another in of those, or somthing with the same size and thickness.

Anything made by Gerber.

I'm also not sure WTF you would actually use a Medford Praetorian for. Stop a bullet?

Any folding knife. I just can't carry one without thinking I'd rather have the simplicity and strength of a good fixed blade.

Gerber, Emerson, and anything made in China. I am probably forgetting another one or two on the blacklist.

I really don't like the Compression lock. I had a Yojimbo 2 and it's a really awesome knife, but I just absolutely hate that lock.

Initially I loved the Spyderco tuff, but the small cutting surface and the groove in the blade (which caught all kinds of material being cut) led me to giving it away. I wanted to love it.

Rebranded "logo" knives.

Knock-off fake knives.

There will NEVER be a legit reason to bring myself to like or support either.

There are a couple of ZTs I like the looks of, but I'm with you on the Strider & Sebenza. I'd take either in trade, (to sell) and I have nothing against them, but they just don't appeal to me.
The Sebenza especially. It's kind of an uninspired design. No offense, Sebenza people- but its just such a generic look, and nothing else about it is a standout from so many other equally well-made knives in the same price range.

Opinels are just ugly.

The CRKT M16 series. I've owned and lost two. Sketchy liner lock(needs the second lock) , Meh steel, mall ninja serrations, and grinds that resemble an ax

If this thread implies that I have tried to like the knife and/or brand, here goes:

Emerson. Hate to say it but I can't stand the use of Philips head screws in knives that cost over $200. I also want to like the Spyderco Military, but the tip-down clip ruins it for me.

I have bought a dozen benchmades and ditched them all. The grind and the temper (low) just bug me. Russ

Any frame lock with ti on one side and some other material on the other. Really not a fan of choils that take up cutting edge, either. I've tried to like Striders and Hinderers, but wouldn't buy either again as result.

I held an 0350 at a store once, with a very confused look on my face. The Sales associate was very excited about it - I was not. I am convinced that ZT and Kershaw don't have one single attractive knife. The ZTs I find much too big, on top of being painful to look at. Lol, I don't know what it is, but they all essentially look the same to me.

I really don't like the Compression lock. I had a Yojimbo 2 and it's a really awesome knife, but I just absolutely hate that lock.

I'm not convinced that it's that great, either. I like the ball-lock on the Manix more - the compression lock is not my first choice. It's way better than a frame/liner lock, but I think I'd be happy with a back lock on it. I hated back-locks until I got a Delica.

I have one frame-lock, just to try it, and I hate it. I also dislike how you get one metallic scale, and a different material on the other side. That lack of 'balance' drives me up the wall, lol.

Medford knives, Crusader Forge knives. Nothing against the companies I just don't like the way they look. For some reason I love Direware though.

Spyderco PM2, Manix 2, Gayle Bradley...I do want to like them - almost desperately so, in the cases of the PM2 and Manix 2 - but it doesn't happen. (I still think that can be fixed with the right scales; but I don't know that I'm willing to keep spending to find out.)
I almost like the Military...but the length is a bit much. I do like the Sage 2, but it's too small. When I've got an afternoon without any pressing responsibilities, I still plan to disassemble the Gayle Bradley and soften all the edges on the liners.

I tend to agree with you, with the exception of the PM2.
I really, really wanted to like the Gayle Bradley, and for about 2 seconds I did...then just so many things added up for me to dislike it. I know that M4 gives it great edge retention, but I did not like how much the blade loved to stain instantly when it touched anything even mildly wet, and the edge was great, but pretty easy to chip if you were'nt careful and didn't use it to cut only stable and consistent materials (which carbdoard is not), so I just couldn't like the blade.
The handle was okay, but not nearly as good as many other Spydercos I have handled, and, like hhmoore said, I could have fixed it with custom scales, but I don't want to spend more money on a knife that, to me, is supposed to be an cheaper user. So it went away...far far away.

The manix2 drove me insane. 4 of them, count with me - 1...2...3...4 of them had blades that had irreperable play side-to-side when I got them, blades that were not gorund evenly, resulting in permanently off-center blades, and wonky edges to try and sharpen anyway except freehand.
Oh, and none of them had good action. I gave up after I returned the 4th one and just went with something else. That was a while ago, both in terms of time and in my collection, but I will never buy one again. I was tempted with the S110V lightweight, but no. Never. And I loved the ergos and the knife itself, so it really pissed me off, and now I just can't bring myself to ever again.

Only decent one I ever handled of the Manix 2 was the XL version, which was too big, and I ended up selling anyway...yeah.

Oh, and for the record, I try to love the whole "overbuilt" custom trend right now, and I love some of the actual designs, but the damn weight, terrible cutting geometry, and wonky ergos that come out of these trends drive me insane!
Don't try to call a knife "hard-use" when you're making a titanium framelock with a super thin lockbar cutout, a narrow pivot with a simple caged bearing system, and a blade that is pretty much useless for cutting. STOP IT.
The truth of it is that is doesn't take nearly as much as people think it does to make a knife tough and strong. My Shirogorovs are made excellently, and will handle just about everything I can ever throw at them and then some, and you know what? They actually CUT too!!! They don't weigh a freiking pound either, and they have great ergos!
Do I want to spend a small fortune on knives that are soo hard to get a hold of, no not really, but if it's what I have to spend to get a functional and sensible design that is insanely well-built, and functions flawlessly, then be damned if I won't do it!

......Sorry, I got a little worked up. There are just sooooo many great designs and great looking knives that are ruined because they are made with .25" thick steel and titanium slabs, when there is absolutely no reason for it, and I want to love them...I really do, but there is just no way.

Honestly Direware is an excellent example of this. They have the ability to make a spectular knife, and they make that apparent. Then they make it weigh a ton, make the blade so thick it can't cut properly, and call it "hard-use" when it's really no stronger than my Sebenza. Really, from the examples I have handled, they are probably weaker in construction considering the thin lockbar cutouts, and the pivot diameter, but honestly I'm never going to test it.
I will never need a knife to do 99% of what they claim they can do, because I am a reasonable human being who has the good mind to be prepared, and I also don't put myself in situations in which I could endanger myself. I would hope that we all do the same here.

Again...sorry.

Without a doubt, I want to like it, but I don't like it at all. I've never owned one, but I'm not going to pay $400+ for a knife I dislike.

Same goes for the ZT0560/0561, Spyderco Paramilitary 2, and Kershaw Cryo/Thermite. I've owned all four and don't like any of them. That doesn't make them a bad knife, I just don't like them.
