What Knife Makes You Feel Safe?

can't stand it, a 65 lb female belgian malinois that looks like she is on crack is alway my door greeter, then we work with the metal stuff, lethal and somewhat non-lethal.

gotta love tha pooches, and if they injure or kill her, we know what the answer is...

To answer the door, I'd most likely grab the 9mm. If someone was already in the house, whichever of these is most convenient to grab:

If I only had time to grab a knife instead of a shotgun (preferably loaded with alternating 00-buck and slug), it'd probably be my Emerson Commander or my Spyderco Endura 4. Of course, I'd always try not to put myself in such situations to begin with....

I have a bayonet on the end of my SKS. I consider it my only 'self defense knife'. All the other ones are for cutting stuff.

Well, I never open my door in the middle of the night unless I know the person on the other side.

But just to play along....probably one of my Buck 110's.

I suppose if I had to grab a knife for protection it would be the one that is most often easy to get to. My CRKT Large First Strike. I have had it for a long time and I am accustom to using alot. It's attached to the side of my ~BOB~ I use it often to dig with when I am out with my metal detector. It looks like crap but is Sharp as a razor!!!!

Okay, I was wondering what knife would you grab if there was a knock on your door at....let's say 2:00am.

..., which knife would you reach for and walk to the door to see who it is?

I would not grab a knife going to the door.

No knife is going to be satisfactory to me in that situation.

A way old .45, carried by my father in WWII, but still in prime functioning condition would be the reassurance of choice.

I live in the woods and my drive is over 3/4 mil and the front gate is 8 ft tall. If you come to my house at 2am and
don,t call first you are crazy or on something. Ether way
you will be met by 2 dobies that hate everyone except
my wife and me. As far as a knife it would be my Randall
#1 it has served me well all over the world.
But don,t count on just the knife my mod 29 .44 would be in my right hand.

I have to be honest here. If, at 2 am, you come knockin' at my door you're going to be met with either a 12 gauge shotgun or/and a .45 caliber automatic.

The best things I have close to me are a Buck 119 and a Fiskars hatchet. I didn't buy them for defense though.

If I had to buy a knife for home defense, it would either be a Becker BK9 or something with a 12" blade, like a Ka-Bar Cutlass or a short Ontario machete.

I've been thinking about the question what I could carry as a weapon at home. Something easy to carry, that still makes you feel comfortable while lying on the couch etc.. The greatest thing about carrying at home is that you don't have to explain to anyone why it says "tactical burglar deanimator" on your klingon dagger. :p So I'm thinking about a karambit, a folding dagger or an auto.

I feel safest with a lockback that is proven to be easy opening and closing, like Spydie Native or Buck 110. They don't come open in my pockets... but neither has a Kershaw Blur. Still, my pocket knife is a tool only. To answer the door at night, I always have something louder in my pocket. Even a sword would be a poor protector of one's abode, in my never-so-humble opinion.

First ones to answer any one at my door are my two puppies - 50# pit and a 90# american bulldog. They do not like people at their front door. At all. They're actually a nuisance when we have company over and have to put them out back or in the garage until everyone is in the house and then they're fine.

Anyway, since for some reason I won't be able to grab one of my .45's on the way to the door, I would grab my 18" M-43 khukuri. I'm sure that thing could remove body parts in one or two strokes.

Taking knife to the door at 2:00 am is a mistake. Knives are not the choice for defense for me. In fact I have never thought of a knife as anything other than a tool. Shotgun is the only senible choice. A handgun in a pinch is ok, I don't own one so maybe a rifle would be second choice.

Darn straight.
