What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Nice Pics, Sarah!
Nice collection, Dan!!
No wonder there are 100 pages - I blink, and there are 102!!

I was recently browsing my local Antique centre, which isn't exactly known for it's wide array of knives...
After seeing a few dilapidated cheapo's at unreasonably high prices, I came accross a display case with a few dozen knives. Most were cheaply made, or tourist knives but there were a couple of good ones in there, 2 barlows, and after moving the imperial barlow aside I saw this.

It says on the tang, Hy.Kaufman & sons Solingen and K55K on the reverse tang. Besides the curved shape, a feature that really stuck out were the oddly shaped aluminium bolsters.
Here it is with the TC barlow.

Something else that was interesting was the flush tang, which I have only seen on a very few knives.

The main spring isn't flush closed, and the pen blade edge seems to touch the liner when closed. I think I may have overpaid at $40 but it seemed like it was a bit different. This is now my only barlow, besides my Charlows.
I think I might be starting to catch barlow fever, which I hear is becoming very common around these parts! ;)

If anyone knows anything about this knife please let me know, as I can't find anything online.

(Also, sorry if this post is too long with the pictures)

Interesting find, Ryan.
Looks closely akin to this Taylor Eyewitness from Sheffield!
Wonder if Taylor made yours, or if one copied the other??

This one has a "trapper" blade configuration - pretty unusual also.

Ryan and Charlie, thanks for posting those beauties! I'm still Barlow-less for the time being, but I hope to change that in time. The ebony spear point Charlows just can't be ignored...

Barlow roundup time! I think this is every Barlow currently in my collection, the little 25's just didn't want to be left out ;)

Nice collection!
The Boker with the sheepsfoot blade really caught my attention. It gives a nice visual, at least for me, of the next Charlow SFO coming from Charlie.

Sitflyer nice collection! I don't think I've ever seen a Buck Barlow before! Those must be Camillus made. Very nice!

Oh yeah, this is for GEC...

Daddy Barlow!

Just a hint...

The Hint has been dropped before Dan - and my friend I am with you big time, if GEC+ Charlie get together and make one I want one BADLY.

Beauty of a collection Stfly, yeah that Buck is pretty cool, and if made by Camilus, it will be a great knife for sure!

Charlie - that Taylor Eye Witness is a superb knife - that to me is just fantastic.
This Thread should be a sticky-even though I understand mods we have enough.

I wonder if there were many (if any) collaborations between Sheffield and Solingen?
I'll have to try out an Eyewitness as well, one of these days, as I don't have many knives from Sheffield. I've been keeping my eye out for an old sheffield lambsfoot as always.
The trapper/barlow combo seems like a cool idea, I wonder if anyone made a 3 bladed barlow?

Acquired my first barlow, one of 3 knives I got on a very good flea market trip. Kabar 1013 USA. Sawcut delrin scales. I'm really liking this one.

Nice first Barlow, launchpad!
A good, sturdy pocketknife!

People keep mentioning Daddy Barlows. This in no way is a teaser for an upcoming model! I just though we could show a few and talk about them.

This is a 1970 10-dot, with unusual jigged bone handles. It also has steel liners, and nickel bolsters. I've been told it is a non-catalog item, whatever that means. I just like it. I don't collect Daddies and have only owned a few, but I really like this one!
