What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

LOL! I dont think you would like it, the blades might be stainless :-)

I did a test with cocktail sauce and Im not sure it got enough patina, do you think the blades are Stainless? I wrote to Boker USA and sent them pics btw, they said it was Carbon.. but what do they know?

disclaimer to those unfamiliar with my tongue in cheek posting style, do not take this post too seriously, parts of it are pure fiction, the rest, well, might be too.. The pictures however, are genuine, you can take those to the bank.

I like your style Jon. You made me laugh. Thanks

Thanks for the photo's Sarah, those knives are looking great! I love the look already of the wood, so when they are finished they should look magnificent.

Oh, holy cow!
The yellow knives are shiiiiiiiiiiiining!
This is the night
Of our new barlow's birth!

I cannot wait
to get one in my poooooocket!
The new spey blade
Fills my spirit with mirth!

(Sorry, crimmus songs on the radio already.... :o )

crimmus?

Hey Charlie, you've turned into a rooster! :)

Almost missed your Post, Jack.
Well, I have been getting up early these days . . .

I had a Rooster once, a Bantam, who kept my laying hens safe and happy!
His success always impressed me, so I thought I'd pay him a bit of tribute.
I even put his picture on the new Spey blade - he was never afraid of anything!!

Ah, very nice Charlie :) I'm an early riser myself, I was out today with my capon ;)

Yes, that's what I meant! You said it better than I. :)

I'm suddenly eager to adopt another pet (okay, maybe just foster-- the Inn's rather full!) and name it "Crimmus." :D

Let's look again at this stunner, shall we?

... That color makes me want to throw the knife into a field and go find it again, just because I'm fairly confident that I could.

Wait, did I just say that out loud?

Revision: "I'm fairly confident that if I dropped this knife, I'd be able to find it again."

Whew.

That may be a far-fetched idea Sarah but at least it has sound reasoning. Many people like yellow covers because they are easier to spot when dropped while out and about.

After posting the above, I was suddenly reminded of recent "backgrounds" into which I would not want a yellow knife to drop(!):

-- I've heard of others' preference for yellow-covered knives for the reason you specify, Ed, which makes sense.

Except in a field of yellow leaves!

I look forward to the yellow knife's contrast in comparison to others in my selection and against other backdrops. I shall endeavor not to drop it (though there is precedent :o), and shall certainly stop short of throwing it. ;)

Really looking forward to seeing the yellow rose in the clip configuration. I do love yellow bone for some reason.

The songs and puns are flying!
There must be an exciting event on the horizon!

Birth of a knife? Crimmus?

Doesn't matter - I like it!

When the Cock Crows, go forth and cut stuff with your new Barlow!!*

*shameless Barlow promotion:o

yellow bone here, get your yellow bone!! I bet this yellow bone will look mighty fine with a nice well earned patina on those blades and bolsters!

Hmm that's a new one to me but man if it's that gorgeous in it's unfinished state I can't wait to see it all polished up!
