What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I wish I was that Barlow collector, Mike! That Southington Bolster is very cool!
As are the saw-cut handles!

Thanks for all the opinions on the pen blade folks.

I have been aching to do this picture since the early days of the Great Barlow Project (GBP)!:D

Here are some pictures of the new TC Barlow with its nearly 100 year old progenitor*!

Many Barlows influenced the final form, but this New York one did so the most. It is at the longer end of the standard Barlow length, at virtually 3 1/2", and has a slimmer, less chunky handle than most. The Bolster stamp aligns with the axis of the knife - that's an N for New York, not a Z for Zucchini!:D
And it just feels good, for all its wear and tear, like an NYK should!
It was a long but satisfying road I must say!

Yes sir, this has been an interesting voyage for us all to watch. Thanks for your work and I look forward to seeing them in person.

Bravissimo, Maestro Charlie!

( Fingertips kiss: Gently brings the fingers and thumb of your right hand together, raise to your lips, kiss lightly, and joyfully toss your fingers and thumb into the air)

Good grief!!, I turn my back, and you guys are busy as Santa's elv's,
Charlie, those Sheepsfoot Barlows are great, love the Colour of that Bone!
Mike...Charlie beat me to it fair and square...that Southington Bolster just is the the pure essence of olden-day quality, they went to the trouble of just plain and simple of "doin' it right", you have (* sorry-had ) two lovely examples there Mike-thanks for the eye candy.
Charlie, could you explain the stamping meaning to me?....the numbers and what they represent? Thank you in advance!

For which knife Duncan?

A fine heritage, carried forward.

My apologies Charlie, I sometimes wonder about myself :o
On that Beaut of a new Barlow of yours, TC Bolstered.

On the two-bladed version: 152212.
15 = pattern number
2 = Main blade, Spear (Wharncliffe is 0, Clip is 1, I'm guessing sheepsfoot is a 3?)
2 = number of blades
12 = year

On the one-bladed, the number is 152112.

(I apologize if this is not what you were asking.)

All that's left is for Charlie to explain the significance, or at least happy coincidence, of "15," as alluded to earlier.

Thanks ~P, you answered everything beautifully - thank you, It will be a good day to be had if I would be so lucky to have one of those Lovely Barlows...

I missed the jump to get one of the ebony 2 bladed versions but suspect I will be just as happy with the antique yellow bone version, which hasn't arrived yet. I'm sure it will get here any minute, it's already been at least 23 hours since ordered.

Same here, but with only 9 made there's not much you can hope for. And I bet Charlie kept at least one for himself :D
And that bone looks just as attractive.

Nice shots ~P!
Somehow a Barlow looks right at home in that old garage/shed window!

Thanks to Waynorth I just got my two Barlows. Two blade Sawyer and ebony handled single blade. I have to say without a doubt these are the nicest GEC knives I have and have seen!

Perfect pulls, halfstops. Great blade shapes, grinds. Heck they are even sharper than any GEC I have gotten before!

Glad you like them Dave - I'll pass the word along to the elves who built them!!:D

Well, I don't know if this party is just for those beautiful barlows, but if the country cousins are welcome, let me say I'm excited about the Huckleberry ebony single blade I've got en route. :)

Thanks again, Charlie. These all look like absolute winners!
