What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I love the 2153 with chain. They all look great but now I think I need a knife on a chain.

you mean like this? :D

Charlie,
I know you're super busy these days, since the first runs are getting out of Titusville as I write but...
Since for some reason I suspect that you've already handled one of these (or will be the first to do it) do these knives have half stops?

Wow, that sure is a looker! I hope I can get in on one of these or one of the ebony barlows Charlie posted.

Thanks for the pic Fausto, I've been wanting to see one of the boys knives in ebony.

Yeah, I think my dream combo is going to be that ebony Huckleberry and the tan bone 2 blade Sawyer.

They are all looking great! Thanks very much, Charlie, for making these happen.

GEC has (most of) the line-up posted, but show them at 3" closed: http://greateasterncutlery.net/blog/pocket-knives/2012-new-releases/ They also describe one of the sawcut barlows as jigged bone. With all the anticipation surrounding these, the good folks at GEC were probably in a hurry to slap those pics up!

Thanks AFaustin! I wonder if all the Sawyers will come in both 1 and 2 blades??? I'd love to score a 2 blade Sawyer in ebony!!! :D

Very nice, this is a very rich thread

I've seen about 4 differnt lengths for a closed length on these now. Does anyone have the correct length? I'd also like any suggestions on where to get one.

Charlie has mentioned in previous posts in this thread that they're 3 1/2" closed.........as far as were to get one..the Boys Knife is a GEC item so any GEC Distributor and if unsure they do have a website that has been linked above that includes dealers...

Thanks Jim.

Fausto, I have not handled a Huckleberry yet, but I have placed an order for more than one! They are looking mighty good!!

I have handled these though!! They look and FEEL good too!!:D

First impressions! GEC did an astounding job on these. They are just a pleasure to hold, and are not obtrusive in any pocket, but they are substantial enough for everyday tasks, IMO. They have half stops, and the walk and talk is absolutely 100% perfect!! I realize that is subjective, but I'd like to hear from others as they start appearing in mailboxes!!;)

P.S. The Sawyers and the Huckleberries are about 1/32" shy of 3 1/2" long!!
They start out at a full 3 1/2" but finishing removes a little material.

Got my name on an antique yellow two blade sawyer. Can't wait until it shows up. Going to make a nice Christmas gift for myself.

Thanks, Sarah!!

The one on the left has some slight cosmetic flaws, and went straight into my pocket!!
I am going to use it daily for a while - give it the full test!!
The Antique Amber (tan) doesn't look as bright and colorful as the other two bone ones, but it looks great in "person", and is the one that reminds me the most of many old Barlows I have known!
The two blade: Even though the long pull on the master "hides" behind the pen blade it is easy to access. There is a wide swedge on the back of the pen blade that lets your thumbnail slip right to the pull!

That's what your swedge will look like, Justin!!

The bone colors appear different from picture to picture, but this earlier one of "Antique Amber" had a similar effect on me-- "Here's a barlow."

Oh, nice detail.
