What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Is the Ben Hogan considered a Barlow? It seems Barlowesque to me. Beautiful knife either way.

This little gem showed up in the mail today. Walnut has always been a favorite of mine and this example is simply perfect. Another winner Charlie! :D

Loving that walnut Larson! Does anyone know if they made a two blade in walnut? I'd love to get my hands on one!!!

GEC's Sue the Graphics woman made something else different from the original - spot it?

I agree with MerryMadMonk, Tom is wearing a plaid vest he has never had before.

Also,
Huck holds a whip again, it was there in the clip and spear run of 2013, was gone for the Sheepfoot run, it came back for the Days Work Rooster spey run, and its still there in the crescent nick spear run.

and
for the Days Work Rooster spey run,

Tom traded his paintbrush for chicken feed, and lost the shadow on his left hand.

This current crescent nick spear run, Tom got his paintbrush back and the shadow of his left hand returned also. Plus Tom has his new plaid vest now.

fwiw, on the Sheepfoot run, Huck has no whip in the hand behind his back, all the other runs he does have it.
Getting a little closer to the Farm, The Sheepfoot Barlow came next, labeled thus:

When we brought out the ummm . . .Mutton Bone variation :D, the front label reflected those Baaad Boys!

What I dont understand yet, is why Tom is painting fences with shoe polish, for the crescent nick spear run. In fact, I dont think Tom USES shoe polish, hes barefootin...LOL!

Great label text btw, some of the most Polished (pun intended) Ive seen. Thanks for the very entertaining labels...

I know that y'all have been waiting on tenterhooks for my inaugural post in this thread :D I was a little surprised when I discovered that I hadn't posted in here yet. I guess I was just waiting for the right Barlow to come a long...well you can all rest well knowing that I have found it!

All kidding aside, I am loving this knife! Dare I say it might just be the one to rule them all!

Thanks Nick! I don't remember seeing anything about a Walnut 2 blade in this run, but there were some 2 blade models with the Sheepsfoot main last year.

Thanks! Other than ebony from the first run I haven't added any wood covered charlows to my pile... I'll have to keep on the lookout for a 2 blade sheepsfoot in walnut!

Yellow bone handles and a spey blade!

But I do hope to get the chance to compare it to walnut handles and a spear blade, just to see if that makes for a better, traditional Barlow!
:)

So did anyone besides me get(got but did not receive yet, thus no pics) the single blade in Gabon? I love ebony but you guys are making me second guess myself. SOMEONE put up a pic of their single blade ebony!

What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Beautiful bone covers for one, superb fit & finish for another and the pure enjoyment of owning a Barlow of this caliber .

Thanks to Barry because of the quality pictures he takes of each knife allows for the buyer to find the perfect knife for his or herself

And of course, thank you Charlie, the knife and the creator are pretty darn amazing. I can't think of a time when I enjoyed knives this much ;).

I really appreciate that too! Always nice to be able to pick out the exact knife you'll be receiving. It probably saves him some time as well, not having to deal with as many special requests because "what you see is what you get."

Nice barlow, Paul!

Thanks Phil, I agree with you in regards to "what you see is what you get" makes the buying process so much simpler. I like knowing exactly what I'm getting

Great shots of that Barlow Paul! Received an ebony Charlow a few days ago. F&F is amazing. Next several weeks to see if it will unseat the #85 as the primary carry. Hope you're well!
