What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone!

Not one single Yecchh! or Yukkk! so far! I guess they pass muster.

There are only a handful of them, so I am trying to find an equitable way to distribute them. I am not sure if we will be able to make any more soon, but we certainly will in the future!

Oh yeah, pictures!
Third Cut Stag. Possibly the first actual reference to it on a production knife.
The actual material has poked its head up in past years, which is where I got the idea. A knife I have from over a century ago, and a middle-aged Boker Barlow that Jon_Slider has shared with us.
Bill at Great Eastern at first refused outright, "Probably be too ugly" he said!
"I might do it for $500 per knife!! I have to think of my reputation!!"
But being a frugal fellow, he kept his off-cuts in a box in a dusty corner of the factory, so when I asked to see them, he obliged. When I got excited, he was taken aback! "I'll make a few", he said. I mentally fist-pumped around the room!! O.K. I said calmly. Ahem. . . excuse me a second . . . . . ..Bargargalowwww!!!

Where was I?? Oh yeah, pics - here they are;

Not what you think of as Stag. What do you think? - tell me!!

You really have to stop putting out these gorgeous knives, my wallet can't handle it

I really think the variety is neat. I'm not the biggest fan of stag (I think it's a thickness of the scales thing), but there is so wing of these that us alluring. The individuality of each piece is really special.

It's a relief to see that nice knife in your possession, Bernd!!

These stag barlow scales remind me of…what was that called…beaver tail bone (or something like that). They look nice, unfortunately all these single bladed barrows feel too tiny in my hand :grumpy:

That third-cut stag is beautiful, Charlie (lot nicer than a lot of first-cut stag I've seen). I like how it avoids the problem of having two stag scales of greatly different thicknesses on the same knife, yet it retains as much character (if not more in some cases) than the typical stag handles.

When I saw third cut Charlie, I wasn't all that geared up to seeing anything special, well its good to be proven wrong at times, I actually really like the look of third cut Stag, it looks very similar to Primitive Bone, and one of those knives you would swear it's Mammoth Ivory!
Again Charlie well done, if there are any left after this stage - If you can Sir, please place one aside for me, but I think I will be a little late - beautiful look to those knives.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a member here get a GEC TC #15 Tattoo soon lol! its spreading like a disease Charlie!

Wow, this thread really GREW yesterday! Fantastic work Charlie AGAIN - There's no stopping you my friend  :)

First TC Barlow tattoo gets a free TC Barlow of their choice!!

(If it is legal to offer! Better talk to my lawyer!)
