What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Charlie, I'm a hunter and I love the idea on your label. I'm looking forward to it! Stick me some hunting blades on that barlow sir! Clip and Drop Point?

This is not about the Forum knife, Al. Barlows only, and, about Waynorth (whoever he is??) extracting elements of tradition (using lesser materials on a company's Barlow offerings for economy) in a current interpretation!
If you hang around a bit, you will see some pictures!

This traditional Barlow thing is getting to be an ongoing saga!
I advise all who are truly interested to read this thread from the beginning!
There are some priceless bits of information contributed by many, and will help interested parties to understand the things we have talked about for so long now!

There are so many threads regarding this waynorth fellow, I get lost and confused; that said, here's a bit of info I have gathered reading this thread from stem to stern, I really really want to see that cut swedged spear point make a comeback...that blade is nothing short of spectacular.

I'm going to need a change of underwear... or two!

Oh yeah, pictures!
Third Cut Stag. Possibly the first actual reference to it on a production knife.
The actual material has poked its head up in past years, which is where I got the idea. A knife I have from over a century ago, and a middle-aged Boker Barlow that Jon_Slider has shared with us.
Bill at Great Eastern at first refused outright, "Probably be too ugly" he said!
"I might do it for $500 per knife!! I have to think of my reputation!!"
But being a frugal fellow, he kept his off-cuts in a box in a dusty corner of the factory, so when I asked to see them, he obliged. When I got excited, he was taken aback! "I'll make a few", he said. I mentally fist-pumped around the room!! O.K. I said calmly. Ahem. . . excuse me a second . . . . . ..Bargargalowwww!!!

Where was I?? Oh yeah, pics - here they are;

Not what you think of as Stag. What do you think? - tell me!!

It's no secret that I'm not a fan of stag, but if this third cut thing can be finished to look like an ivory bone, or even appear like an aged elephant ivory, then I'm in for one. That last ones. Something I'd buy in a New York minute.

I really like second cut bone and stag and I must say the third cut looks exceptionally well too.

I really like the top knife in the first pic...reminds me of a black and white cookie.

3rd Cut Stag. Love it!

Reading this thread from the beginning, Waynorth has made it clear that he intends to stay true to the working class, sometimes rough, but well-crafted tradition of past Barlows. Third cut stag not only continues this vision, but puts the Charlow in the front line of 21st century conservationism!

Maybe my visions of fancy first cut stag and brass liners will show up on some future nontraditional Un-X-Ld Barlow.

Absolutely stunning! They remind me of an old pocket worn IXL Barlow that haunts my dreams. I guess these will be haunting my dreams now as I have unfortunately exhausted my knife budget for the foreseeable future. Hopefully I'll be able to track one down when I get the funds together ;) Well done Charlie!

Boy I failed to visit this thread for a few days (okay, maybe longer then a few) and BAM!!! Something new---I like them Charlie, very much!!!

I'm a two blade kinda guy, I hope they're available in that configuration as well as the single blade?

If so of course count me in...

Paul

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone!

Not one single Yecchh! or Yukkk! so far! I guess they pass muster.

There are only a handful of them, so I am trying to find an equitable way to distribute them. I am not sure if we will be able to make any more soon, but we certainly will in the future!

Sent you an email, Charlie. I absolutely love them. They are really in the true spirit of a good, traditional barlow.
