I had wanted one of the early Charlows, with the long pull blades, and in a handle material I liked, for quite a while.
Sitflyer made my dream come true by offering me this specimen - and at a very fair price, I might add.
The Canadian coin, along with a nicely worded note, accompanied the knife.

I concluded that he possibly sent a Canadian coin to signify the knife was designed in Canada. Not sure he meant it that way, but, that was my Primble-like understanding and I added a few old American coins to signify designed in Canada and made in the good ole USA!

Based on our conversations, I think that he offered it to me because he believed it belonged in a collection. He might have figured that I would most likely keep the knife in relatively good condition. If he did believe such, then he was indeed correct!

I appreciate it Duane!;):)

What makes a good, traditional Barlow? Perhaps it's the adventure leading up to it. I've been wanting a 2009 for quite awhile...and I'm thrilled to say that one will be arriving on Friday or Saturday!!

@ Duane this very generous offer does not surprise anyone here on our great forum;)

You are a true asset Duane:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That PPP is a heart breaker to let go!!
Very generous, Duane!!
The first batch Barlows hold a special place for me!

Nice going 9blades!! Tough to find!!

Thanks Charlie!! I'm happy about it! Recently I had a conversation earlier today, and your walnut TC's came up. The gent mentioned that the wood was originally set aside for custom shotgun stocks? I'm curious if there's any validity in that...The walnut certainly looks the part. :)

One that looks like it's always belonged...

I'm not sure if it was just for shotguns but the walnut did belong to Charlie's father & was set aside to be made into gunstocks. :)

Paul & Primble - thanks gents!! More pics when it's in my hands. :)

That's even better, thank you for the info!

Old saw-cut red bone Boker Barlow with nearly full blades:

Mark - really sweet old knife there - the natural patina is great on that one - if it were mine, it might be a candidate to leave as found. ;) Beautiful bone on that one too!

I missed yesterdays post. Holy smokes that one is a beauty. Way to go, sniff, sniff, Duane. It must have been an emotional day, sniff, sniff

Primble - Thanks, I agree it is fine the way it is. :) I really like that old Boker you have there sir. :)

Philllll - I do too! I am trying to hint at Charlie to put a punch in place of a pen blade in the future Charlow runs. :D

sitflyer - Thank you sir. :) It has been used and sharpened properly and I was fortunate to get it.

I think it would be cool to have a run of "Daddy" TC barlows with one clip blade, sawed bone and an EO notch. I can only dream........

I believe this might just qualify. My first TC Barlow. Extremely pleased. Top notch quality, great fit and finish. Absolutely loving the Rust Red Jig Bone. Very sharp out of the tube, I cut myself arranging the blades for it's photo shoot. I can now see why one may become addicted to these knives.
