What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

That is a good looking knife there Jon - well done Sir!

I have a new batch of knives arrived while I was away this week - this was in fact a very tough week to be honest, but finding these knives waiting for me was just fantastic!-Wow...photos to follow soon - hopefully some time tonight or tomorrow!

Thanks slide13, I used antler from a Whitetail I shot in 1983. I wanted to use it on a knife and the TC Barlow with stag is a winning combo IMHO.

I would absolutely love to see one customized in smooth fossilized cave bear teeth. Here's an example.

I'm sure you are tired of Frank and me posting how this forum is for the discussion of the knives, Lord knows we're tired of repeating it. This forum is not the place to post how much they cost, who is selling them and all the other commercial stuff that doesn't belong here but keeps getting posted.

To that end I'm going to try and stop making these annoying posts and start issuing infractions instead. So those of you who don't know how to take a hint, consider this a warning.

Gary and I are of one accord on this.

On the bizarre off chance that people did not read the other thread, I am moving three posts off line.
Infractions come next.

This forum is for the purpose of discussing knives. It is not an extension of a storefront.

Gary and I are serious about this.

A Good Traditional Barlow is one that is used well.

I confess to having a few that I have not used, waiting on my shelf. But these are my users, my regular rotation.

I thought more than twice about whether I should use the soupbone, or preserve it "as new" in a collection. But then I had a couple of heart attacks this Spring, and I had some time off work to contemplate my mortality. Some stenting and some meds, and my heart is doing better. But life is short. I couldn't just look at that soupbone Charlow and leave it in the tube.

So this is my rotation, for now.

I have been blessed today to receive a new TC Barlow, and I will post pictures of it later this weekend. It is so pretty, I may not be able to keep it out of my pocket for very long.

Life is short. I'm going to use these Barlows. And when I die, my kids and grandkids can fight over them, saying, "I remember that knife. Papa always carried that one."

Wow! Heart attacks! A doozy of a wake-up call!
I hope you continue to use those Barlows in good health, Scott!

Dr. Scott, here's wishing you continued good health and this one will never be used by me, the GEC rendezvous barlow.
