What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Cory, I am very sorry to hear about your Dad, Shingles are extremely painful and can be with you for a long time - I hope for your Dads sake they get onto that quickly - terrible stuff! I have seen that take on my freinds Dad as well - so I wish your dad all the best Sir - and hope your Mum gets a break - as well as your self.
Shingles strat within - the immune system, get your mum doing some research on building that up with natural goodies - I have been going down that very road myself after being struck down. But watch out - it gets real involved!!!

Lovely knives, I tell you what- that Brazilian Wood has really struck me- thats really beautiful stuff there - Charlie - great stuff there- and a job well done on these knives!

Thank you for the kind words, my friend. My mom had shingles about 5 years ago, so hopefully we're done with that for a while. My dad's shingles got into his head, which I guess isn't too common. Then, once in his head it went after his nervous system which caused what they call Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. I guess this is pretty rare. They had a really hard time diagnosing it because the symptoms are pretty weird. It caused one side of his face to sag, like a stroke would. It also caused his tongue to swell up and lesions on his vocal chords. So, they had a guy with what looked like shingles, maybe a stroke or possibly Bell's Palsy and he couldn't swallow because of the tongue thing and he couldn't talk because of the vocal chords. He's definitely on the mend now, and they documented the whole ordeal. They're taking this up to a medical convention in Toronto next month where they will give a lecture on it. Hopefully it will help somebody in the future. The scary thing is that there are a lot of side effects that can include deafness and paralysis which become permanent if treatment doesn't start almost immediately. Luckily, my dad didn't get most of the side effects because it took them 3 days to figure it out and get treatment started. The hope is that if they can get his case out there other people will be diagnosed quicker which will prevent the permanent disabilities.

Some nice ones Paul and KBA. I'm really enjoying seeing all the different covers. I like how each one is different.

Cory, I've got you and your dad and your whole family in my prayers. Hope the weekend brings better times.

Well, my Anniversary Charlow finally arrived. I thought I would never have one of my own, being too busy to reserve one in that narrow window of a few hours after the news first hit the forums. Resigned to missing out on this one, I was thrilled when, a few days ago, I got the email from my favorite dealer saying there was one for me!

You're very welcome Brett. I'd rather it be in your pocket than on my shelf waiting to be rotated-in :)

I have to admit, I wasn't sure I'd like soup bone, but I LOVE the one that ended up with me. This is my first TC Barlow and I have to say it had all of my favorites.... LP Clip, single blade and a red handle. Charlie, this is beyond a home run!

I am glad these are limited runs (even though it took me 6 months) because when you get one, you know you've really gotten something special.

My pics don't do it justice...
