Something to drool over.

I don't see the image....

Interesting stuff! Mine says:

I'm at work so I can't measure mine, but I'd be willing to bet it's a match.

I bet you are right Dan. I need to search more on the origins of this knife as I know nothing about it.

I think there is an Anniversary knife headed my way, if the mail can get here through the storms and floods and Christmas shoppers... Until then, I will be content with photos from others and my own special soupbone.

Upfront Warning: This is going to be a ridiculously long post.

I've had a hell of a week. My dad has been in the hospital since Sunday. He has shingles, which got into his head and then mutated into some obscure syndrome that is rare enough that they're taking all kinds of pictures to show off at the next medical convention. My oldest got sent home from school sick on Monday. That quickly spread to the other two kids. So, my days have been spent at home taking care of sick kids. Then as soon as my wife gets home from work I head to the hospital to relieve my mom, whose been spending her days there. I leave the hospital in time to relieve my wife so that she can go back to work in the morning. As of yesterday all the kids are healthy again and my dad is going to be released today. Of course, I also got sick yesterday and just got word this morning that my wife's mother is now in the hospital. Not a fun week.

The good news is that I have been very lucky in the barlow department this week. I'm not a big barlow guy, but decided that I should give them a try seeing as how they get so much positive feedback here. I received my first functional barlow about 2 weeks ago, and then collected my next four all this week. My pictures are subpar, but I don't have the strength or inclination to do any better at this point in time. Here's the lineup:

It started with the Stew's Blade, which I picked up off of the exchange a couple weeks ago:

Then I was able to trade for a 25 barlow, which arrived on Monday:

I was on the list to receive a red soup bone, but got a couple surprise emails which led to me receiving two soups and a rosewood yesterday!!

Here's the first soup:

And the second:

Neither one is super soupy, but I have to say that out of all of the knives that have passed through my hands the handles on these are far and away my favorites.

Here's a couple shots of the rosewood:

And a couple more where I tried to do a better job of doing justice to the handles:

Again, the rosewood handles are superb. Kudos to Charlie and the GEC crew for turning out some top-notch knives. I'm not as big of a barlow fan as many here are, and I'm certain that at least three of these knives are going to end up in somebody else's collection. I don't know if it's the length or the blade selection but, while beautiful, these aren't knives that I can see myself using a whole lot. I'll probably pick one or two to keep and try carrying and move the rest along.

Wow, Cory. You don't mess around when you decide to give something a try! Beautiful knives!

I hope your father recovers well, and the kids stay healthy. Sounds like you could use a day off just to bond with your new knives!

Awesome, Cory! That's the first spearpoint rosewood I've seen. Beautiful!!

Prayers for you and yours, I hope you all are healed up quickly!

Geez, Cory, when it rains, it pours!:( I hope you and your family all get healthy again very soon. Your experience is certainly not what people have in mind when they talk about spending more time with the family for the holidays.

Small consolation, but you sure seemed to experience a "downpour" of barlows, too! Very nice knives. If you have the time and inclination sometime, I'd appreciate hearing your impressions/opinions of that little 25. I usually just admire GEC products from afar, but lately, I have a "bee in my bonnet" about the 25 pattern as something I might actually purchase some day, so I'm trying to do some research into "user satisfaction".

Cory -

Very sorry to hear of all you and your family's troubles. I'm glad to hear that you, your dad, and your kids are returning to good health and wish the best for your your mother-in-law.

That is a fine assortment of Barlows you have there. I Just got my anniversary red soup, my Borschtlow (trademarked, ;)) yesterday and am liking it very much. Its my first and only Charlow. I pray I can proceed with prudence and not go overboard in the quest for all of them. If I were you I'd hold onto one of each of those TCs. That's a fine diverse collection of TC single blades, a nice spread of different blade types and coveted handle materials. I'd rather they were in your hands than in the hands of my enemies, LOL. That said if you are looking to unload any of them... ah, just keep em!

Scott and Dan, thank you so much for the kind words and well wishes. I really do appreciate it.

5K, I'm going to shoot you an email with the best review you're likely to get.

I have really enjoyed the process of acquiring my first TC Barlow and first soup bone. This is also the first #15 I have handled. The size and weight is perfect for me. I think this will be an excellent EDC, IF I can bring myself to actually carry this beauty. Thanks to all those involved in bring this amazing knife to fruition. Thank you!

Thank you very much for your kind words and well wishes. I'd like to keep them all, but I'm not one to hold on to things that I don't use regularly. I get to feeling guilty knowing that there are others out there that would get such joy out of the knives that I have sitting in a drawer and inevitably I find somebody that "needs" the knife in a way that I don't. Luckily, this allows me to obtain more knives than my budget really allows, as I can trade or sell knives that I don't use in order to finance ones that I'd like to try. If I kept all of these I'd be done with knives until the summer. ;)

I love everything about the red soup bone, especially that name: "red soup bone." And what a great label! (And no, I don't have one. I'm just figuring out how to be in the right thread to get on the elusive list. It is magical, did you know? Invisible to all but the trained eye. I'm in the early stages of Charlow training.) :D
