What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Got another gem in today's mail. Indoor photo because it's already too dark out for outside shots:

Very nice Phil, you and Evan are really snapping up those old Barlows!

Thanks Charlie! Oh it worked very well. I'll have pics for y'all tomorrow. It's finished and in my pocket. I won't diminish its beauty with a photo taken in artificial light. And yes it feels good to have resuscitated a case redbone Barlow. Lol. Have a good night everyone

Really looking forward to seeing this

Smashing Charlie! Classy new pocket-sheath too :)

I like the pins struck and peened - rather than spun if I had a choice - so I really like the job Glenn has done on the TC with Johns Stag.

It looks good

Mark, please, you're giving me heart palpitations... ;)

:D

Here is an old Ulster Barlow I just picked up. It's simplicity and razor sharp blades make it a nice EDC for me.

My stag TC from a Whitetail I harvested

Could be the first Stag TC Barlow, Mark - unless Evan has done one or ten, beering them in the process??!!!!:D

Nice job!!

I like hammered pins also, Duncan. Glenn hammered them to preserve the stag. Sometimes spinning them will mar that antler, with a circle around the pin, or worse.

Wow Glen you did a fantastic job on the stag barlow. The hammered pins look great with the stag.

I'm also enjoying the old barlows in this thread.
Phil the jigging on the DE is sweet.

Charlie and Mark: very, very nice stag. Love the Sheffield quality, and the fact that one came from a harvested deer. Use it all up! ;) :)

Takokato: Your Farmboy Barlow looks vintage already! Love the color on the handle and on the blade.

That reblading job turned out fantastic!! As I posted in another thread, the handles are jaw-droppingly gorgeous! Lemmy, you've got at least 2 RED hot "new" knives thanks to your own imagination and craftsmanship. WOW!

Just got this Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett OVB in today. Wow its really tight and in great shape. No gaps, firm pulls, satisfying Walk and talk. They really don't make them like they used to... well maybe some do. :D

That's a difficult knife to find in decent condition! Lotta life left in those blades and the handles and that bolster looks amazing!
