What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I posted this on the Wooden Wednesday thread but figured I would like to add it here as well. I just can't get over the "chameleon like" ability of the Santo wood to change it's appearance. Here is a pic of mine when the light source was rotated 180 degrees as well as a more color accurate picture that better represents the color I see when looking at it. Thanks again Charlie for making these available to us!

All I can say is, WOW. My hat's off to ya, Charlie. You are a true artist and visionary, and continue to prove that to us time and time again! In your creations, you have successfully captured the spirit of knives from long ago, but there is also no doubt that they are a reflection of your essence. Thank you, my friend, for so very much. It truly is an honor to know you and we are all privileged to bear witness to your legacy. Your name will live on in history, for ages to come.

I'm not much of a photographer, this doesn't do justice. But I am overjoyed with these babies! I'm naming my palo santo "Pablo", because it looks like a Picasso to me! Way to go Charlie, thank you for being you. Now, back to healing and rejuvenation with Pablo, ...ahhh I feel better already.:D

Glad they got to you safe! I know you're gonna enjoy those.

Gentlemen,

Here are the knives the wife ordered me last week. I had a minor issue trying to post them yesterday, sorry. :D

Wow! Before I read your post, I was convinced you had two separate knives! Chatoyance! I see it!

Brad - A beautiful pair of TC's. Hope you get to feeling better real soon :)

Those palo santos are beautiful! I thought it would be more like bocote, but the palo santo really seems to come alive in changing light.

Our pal Sugarleaf won the Septuple Crown--all 7 variations! Let's praise his industriousness! He has pics on his Instagram.

At-a-boy Sugarleaf !!
Glad to see that karma comin around!

Until relatively recently, I'd never purchased a TC Barlow when they were released. I didn't realize how superlative they were until I met Charlie at the 2014 GEC Rendezvous and purchased one from him personally. He let me handle many of them and was very generous with his time and enthusiasm. By handling them in person I realized how very special they are, and if I'd had the money I'd have purchased more (read: up to all of them. lol :D )

Now I'm a huge TC fan in part because the knives are so well and traditionally made, but mostly because I consider Charlie a friend. I was able to pick up three in the aftermarket: a spear, clip and spey, but was unable to get the sheepfoot. These are the three that I picked up from members here. I love them and they represent relationships with new friends here, too.

I was able to purchase Red Soupbone 2nd Anniversary Charlow when they released. Like my others, the pull on these is smooth and precise. A 4 or 5 on the pull scale which is perfect and user-friendly. There is no side-to-side blade play. I love them all!!

My photos don't show the true, deep red. I had a problem with glare, fading light and maybe my phone has a problem with red?

Robb, get trio. I was just thinking about that knife today. Looks like it's being well cared for and is in good hands.

Yeah, LastRodeo. I've got them on display in a cabinet. Covered with a thin film of oil and very much appreciated. These are my first attempts at photos. For most I was shooting into the setting sun so the color is a bit washed and there is some glare, but not where the camera is reflected in the Red Soup Bone.:D

I'm now wishing I had ordered the wood.....I had no idea it looked so GREAT!!! :heart-borken:

I am just floored by how beautiful the Palo Santo wood came out. I am also loving how different it is than my other wood handled TCs.

The Palo Santo will stick out like a sore thumb in my collection, and that just adds to my appreciation of it. I think Charlie went out on a limb(bad pun intended) with this one, and it paid off in spades!

Speakin' of wood TC Barlows, here is my ring of fire.
