What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Being an Ebony kinda guy first and foremost I held off any opinions until I could see the Palo Santo first hand---it's darn purdy stuff:cool:

Great looking Paul! I like how every single knife looks different.

Thanks Perry---I honestly didn't think I'd warm up to this as I LOVE ebony:thumbup: I was telling Mark that it reminds me of those pictures when I was growing up where you'd look at it then slightly rotate it and the entire picture would change?

That's what I think this wood is like:cool:

Both really nice examples, Phil! I like how the Pacific has that old spear with a long pull and the primitive looking bone. That soup bone has some great variation to the color too!

Never heard of Pacific, Philll - nice score!

Great Palo Santo picture, Paul! You've brought out the best in it!!

At first glance it is sometimes not as spectacular. But as you look at it and turn it, it is quite surprising.

Thanks for showing your new knives folks!

Like a Vari View Barlow! :D

I kinda like the way copper patinas on this Canal-Street made Kabar Barlow:

It's a stout little work horse.

Of course, there is nothing like a 2nd Anniversary Red Soup Bone Charlow with deep marrow grooves. And I mean nothing!

Robb, "stout" sums up the Kabar very well...SOLID knife for sure. I sold mine here on BF solely because it never saw the pocket time it deserved. I too liked the way the Copper took a patina:thumbup:

Great pictures by the way:cool:

Paul - I will give an "Amen" on that :thumbup:

A couple of Good, Traditional Barlows!

Grandpa and Grandson

Phil - Nice family portraits but that Soup is NICE :D

Robb - That is a nice bowl of Soup!!:D

I hear you Paul. It just cuts so well. And that copper--there's nothing else like it. The copper has a pink-ish hue when new that looks odd next to that rootbeer bone. But as it ages and takes on first an iridescent and then brown patine, it just looks so right!! If you like slim, you might try the coppersmith half-moon trapper. I have the half-moon in chestnut and it is a nice, slim package.

The coppersmith line almost makes me want to get a copper AAA flashlight to go with it. :D Almost.

Thanks for the compliment. It's all the camera. Really.

The Canal Street made Kabar Coppersmith Barlow is one of my favorite knives I own but it was a little to thick for me. This one will see lots of time in my pocket. :)

A knife does not need to be old to be a good, traditional Barlow. My new sheepfoot, Antique Yellow jigged bone:

I'm so nearsighted, I didn't notice all the lint on the knife until I saw the blown up pictures on the computer. I'll have to clean it up and take some more photos!
