What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Rob, these new offerings are incredibly great looking in their own right. You always find a way to raise the bar incredibly high with your pics.

Wow, that Blackwood is where it's at! How does it differ from Ebony?

It's very close. This particular one is a bit more "grainy" than my Ebony version. Both are very evenly textured, but I feel the grain of the wood a bit more with the Blackwood. I had a 77 Medium Barlow in Blackwood that was gifted to Perry that was very smooth, so I think it varies in grain and coloring much like Ebony does. Both very nice in my opinion.

Primble Cock-A-Doodle-Doo, Rob as usual your photography skills have taken an average old Ho Hum Barlow and made it look fabulous :D:eek::D

I've been waiting for that comparison pic! Thanks Tenacious D!
Looks like I'll get a couple of knives to CF and CE later today.

Bravo on another incredible offering Charlie! Thanks for all you do and thank you for the thought, care and creativity you put into your knives. It's definitely no accident that the TC is the benchmark for the traditional Barlow of our time.

Thanks Tenacious D! That's just what I wanted to see.

Always appreciated Perry, Bob, Tim, Dean, Camillus, and Ron ! Dean - that Blackwood looks fabulous ! :)

I love the bone color on my Copperhead and the label.:thumbup::D

No New Day for me yet, so this one had to continue afternoon fruit snack duty. The orange peel never stood a chance. :D

Really admire that 2-blade sheepsfoot TC, Bob!! That's not brand new, but it's a keeper!:thumbup:

Macchina, I have two here beside me right now, and the ebony is blacker, and the blackwood is a deep dark brown. The grain is more evident in the blackwood, and the wood seems to have a little more oil. Both handle materials are beautiful, but the blackwood just looks richer and prettier. I am sure as both knives age, the ebony will grow prettier, as will the blackwood, but fresh from the factory the blackwood is just drop dead gorgeous.

Thank you for that. When I go back and look at the pictures your description rings true. Beautiful knife you have there!

I got my first New Day TC Barlow this morning and I am impressed. Perfect F&F, the African Blackwood is beautiful with subtle variations in color and the blade shape is just right for spreading marmalade!

Charlie and GEC knocked it out of the park on this one. Here's a couple photos to showcase the wood, etc.

Very nice...those disappeared with the speed of light. I added one to my cart, and by the time I went to pay - they were already all gone. Pretty bummed.

Good catch!

Well, Bill did an amazing job on the bone jigging this time around!
GEC is calling it Pick Bone on the tube-top label, but it is their closest yet to Schrade's old Peachseed from just after WWII.
Thanks Rob, for the nicely detailed pictures you produced!
I just scored some of the knives this afternoon!!
Pics tomorrow I hope!!

As I wait for my single blade black wood and copperhead to arrive hopefully today, I thought Id share my most recent knife thanks to Evan. For the serious purist among us I offer an apology for the defacement but add it will enjoy a long and happy life.

First thought I had when I pulled it out of the wrapper was Schrade Peachseed. Guess I should have read the tube top closer ! :D

I was very satisfied with the beautiful Copperhead bone.:)
