What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I just got my blackwood. My first TC Barlow and.... oh, dear. I might be in trouble.

I wasn't a believer in the hype/mystique but as soon as that thing hit my hand, I changed my tune a bit. This is one hell of a knife.

Congratulations! They are beautiful, traditional and addicting knives. Also, they fulfill their main purpose in life so well.

As I wait for my single blade black wood and copperhead to arrive hopefully today, I thought Id share my most recent knife thanks to Evan. For the serious purist among us I offer an apology for the defacement but add it will enjoy a long and happy life.

I'm guilty of the same defilement

I agree Primble, these covers turned out great! I forbid you to defile these with a home dye job! :D

:eek::eek: All right then. No need to change the Copperhead color - it is very much to my liking ! :D

The only one that I home dyed was this one. I still like it much better, as it had NO color. :p:p:p

3rd Cut Stag:

And it looks great. I liked it the first time you posted the photo.

I love the jigging pattern on this run; Bill surprised everyone with it!

I also like the dark, dark green on these; after some wear, they will show some beautiful emerald color! :D

(Some have been known to prematurely 'wear' bone covers with some 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper  I think I'd rather not.)

Beautiful knives and pictures!

The stout spey with long pull is a handsome blade. The jigged bone is stunning. A New Day, indeed.

I'm wondering, Charlie, if you've ever seen them do the jigging? If I could make it to the Rendezvous, that would be on the top of my list to see/ask about.

It's a new day indeed. A new day and a new knife. I'm liking it.
Comparison pics with the Day's Work. The blade sits just slightly higher in the frame to allow the long pull. I really like the pen behind the main. Nice job Charlie. :D

Looking good, Bob! I'm waiting on my green one.

Mark that copperhead looks gorgeous with the African blackwood.

Nice Bob. I went with the blackwood, as I wasn't sure what the pick bone was going to look like.

Beautiful Barlow's everyone, those TC's are definitely the top of the heap when it comes to current production Barlow's, just wish they were easier to get.

Congratulations! ... Also, they fulfill their main purpose in life so well.
You mean extracting money from your 401K?

Are these ivory?
Mine is Pre-ban Elephant

The first one is Mammoth Ivory and I'm guessing the second one is either elephant or mammoth ivory as well.
I thought yours was Elephant as well because of the consistent creamy white. It's beautiful!!

My single clip 3rd cut has no color either, but I quite like it. Looks a lot like the polished stag on the WA Jacks. Mine will remain unmolested, as with most of my TC's. The ones that have been defiled I specifically purchased for that purpose to become users. I have a few "originals" that are users, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to put any more into circulation. Here is a photo of the rainbow spectrum of different third-cuts: (the clip/pen is my favorite TC out of all the ones I own, in any configuration)

Awesome Bob! Looking good:thumbup:

Great comparison shots Bob. The 'New Day' has a little more belly in the blade than the original - a definite improvement, I think, and the long pull is sweet! Charlie hit a homer with this run. :D:D:D

They all look great, nice pics everyone, but surprisingly the new green jig might be my favorite. -Never thought I'd like a green knife.

Yes sir! Ima itchin for checkin this one out in person! Great shots Bob, Barry and all others!

Great photo Barry! Yeah, The green is going to look awesome once the color gets a little wear. On another note, I can't wait for your SFO to hit the dock! That is going to be the best one out of this sheeplifter run:thumbup:
