What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Here's an interesting one.

I don't have much info on this knife. I think it was re-handled at some point in the past (not recently) because the pins aren't flush. I'm pretty sure the blade is for dog grooming because it's similar to some other dog grooming knives I've seen. It's not very sharp, more of a comb than a saw. The little protrusion at the very tip is sharp, though.

Very cool find Phil. I need that one for the pooch! Seeing tools like this that were used back then make me wish they still made them noww. Imagine wihipponf this out at a dog show

The green bone on mine is almost black on the mark side but the pile side has some really nice green around the edges.

Great pair Jake, these photos are making me more and more excited for the arrival. that green just steals the show

These new long pull Spey blades look just magnificent! Having been lucky enough to find a sample from the two most recent runs of Barlows (Sheepfoot and X-mas) I was planning to sit this one out . However, after seeing them, I can not resist. I hope I can get lucky and find one for myself.

No copperhead love?

Here ya go...

I thought I would like the green better, but now that I have them in hand, I definitely like the copperhead more. The pull on this run is stiffer than any previous run, which I like just fine. A solid 6. My African blackwood seems to be the snappiest out of the bunch.

Here is a comparison shot to the first run of spey's. Definitely a stouter blade, but it still sits nice and streamlined when closed.

Wow. Just wow so excited to get these!
That copperhead photo does look great. Thanks for sharing the photo. I thought the green and black would be my favorites.

I hope mine shows up tomorrow, but it'll probably be Wednesday.

I still want one from the original run. I like the nail nick. And the yellow bone.

I tried hard to get in on this run (after missing the preorders) but lost at each release. I think KSF was my last chance a few hours ago and I made it all the way to pressing "checkout" before I was informed others had bought them first. I went back but all the single blades were gone.

Oh well, the fun is definitely in the pursuit and I will pay more attention to this thread from here on out to get in on the next run. Any hints on what the next run will be?

Great to hear Al! Boy that some beautiful green, Jake!
That's quite a find indeed, Phil! Never ever seen one before, thanks for showing it!

Same here, went to pay and it was gone. Was hoping for a blackwood. Someday perhaps, congrats to all that snagged one. They are beauties for sure!

Very unique and cool old IXL Phil.

Beautiful "New Days" being posted. I will say I am particularly fond of the blackwood version.

Chris
